Personally not a Star Trek fan, but I have to ask - does Kirk get tied up?  Tortured? :)

Beaten Up, sexed up, shot up with an inoculation that he is allergic to and dumped, but not tied up..That sole honor goes to Captain/Admiral  Pike. Now what happens to Spock is interesting indeed...Fascinating one could say.

For those that have seen it is it good?

DomKen -> RE: New star trek movie. (5/8/2009 9:43:13 PM)

The whole split timeline thing so JJ Abrams didn't have to pay any attention to established Star Trek in any way was pathetic. I love Star Trek and hated this movie from start to finish. The high point was hearing Nimoy read the old series' intro for what will almost certainly be the last time.

I sincerely hope this thing bombs as badly as it deserves and Paramount puts the whole franchise on the shelf until they can find someone who 'gets' Star Trek to run things.

Well, I avoided the crowds of fellows dressed in klingon or starfleet garb, but I want to see it. I saw everyone with my father in the eighties, along with the Indiana Jones movies. The last Indiana Jones movie sucked royally, but I had to see it. I willl see this movie too.

Thank you, sir. You done took the words right out of my mouth. Berman & Braga left Star Trek on the verge of death, and JJ Abrams comes along, breaks its legs and fucks it in the ass.

What I'm sick and tired of is hearing everyone claim that Star Trek needed a fresh start, that they needed to bridge the gap between hardcore fans and casual fans and blah blah blah...

It has been proven time and again that you can do that without raping Star Trek. Star Trek II, Star Trek IV, and Star Trek First Contact reached out and brought new people in, while staying true to what Star Trek is. Hell, Star Trek II is almost a cultural phenomenon in and of itself. Don't get me wrong, with the exception of Star Trek V and Insurrection, the rest were good movies, but they weren't necessarily tailored to everyone. They were made to be a Star Trek movie.

And this generic cast of good looking young actors (with the exception of Simon Pegg) is a sad sham compared to the original series cast.

I still think William Shatner said it best on SNL   "For God's sake people it was a TV show...  Go out and get a life...You there in the spock costume...have you ever kissed a girl????"

I can't wait for the day when Hollywood starts creating NEW ideas and stops making movies out of cancelled TV shows.

It's good - go see it :)

MarsBonfire -> RE: New star trek movie. (5/9/2009 3:52:46 PM)

Thursday night boxoffice = $7 million
Friday boxoffice = $31 million
Saturday estimated = $30+ million
Sunday estimated = $26+ million

So much for the "bomb" theory.

My God!

Lord, forgive her, for she knows not what she speaks of.....

Star Trek forever!

We were supposed to go see this tonight and when we got to the theater, the show was sold out. I had no idea how big Trek is in Portugal but it's in virtually every theater in the country along with the new X-Men movie. We're trying again tomorrow since Mother's Day and church is huge here, we're hoping the theater will be empty.

I haven't seen it yet, but it's weird seeing the guy who played Syler now doing Spock.

Well the books eventually go into alternate time lines and dimensions. You end up with Captain kirk and Emperor Tiberius Kirk.

LOL

Now it's just a movie and we all know man will never travel in space

And how do we all know that, exactly? Where is your proof positive of this assertion?

Not to mention the fact, we already have. Wait until you hear about the moon landings, they're quite something!

Now obviously I can assume that you mean we will never travel in the style of Star Trek. And that may be so. But again, where is your evidence backing up your claim?

Heinlein said it best:
  • Everything is theoretically impossible, until it is done. One could write a history of science in reverse by assembling the solemn pronouncements of highest authority about what could not be done and could never happen.
