Today i was told that there was evidence that i've had this kind of a stroke.... They wrote down the name of it and told me to go home and google it and to call the neurologist first thing Monday morning.... i'm not sure if i'm just this numb from the pain killers or if the information is this greek........but i can not seem to make heads or tails of it... Any experiences, suggestions, opinions.. Kali

Blood vessels in your brain are getting cloged up with blood clots. You're going to be put on blood thinner medication, a moderate diet, and be told to start light to moderate exercise. Based on the severity of headaches and dizziness, you might be given some other medications. Your blood pressure and cholesterol will also be rigorously checked from now on.

Thanks FangsNfeet..... i seriously hope the bizarreness of this goes away soon. i was eating a sugar free Popsicle tonight and the 'ice headache' that i should have had was like a little mini-explosion in my head... Thanks again, Kali

Ice headaches are caused by "referred" pain. You are freezing a nerve in your mouth, but the pain manifests itself in your head; unlikely to be related to the stroke. There are other instances of a nerve in body part A being stimulated, but the person sensing pleasure elsewhere, due to minor defects in how our brains are wired. Women, in particular, have a sexual pleasure center near the part of the brain that processes nerve impulses from the feet, which is the physiological explanation for why so many women love their shoes! As for the stroke itself, a far more serious matter, FangsNFeet is pretty much spot on. Get your blood thinned out, drop your blood pressure, and make damn sure you take your meds every single day as directed. The drugs, when used properly, are highly effective for this condition. Do see that neurologist on Monday, and until then be well.

It really sucks to be a sub/slave who is on blood thinners. I hope that you'll be able to adjust with bondage and more mind play in your relationships. Thin blood leads to being bruised more easily. I'm not saying you have to give up being floged or whiped, but you may have to look at the lighter side of naughty toys. I hope you never have a stroke, especially while in a scene. It could be confused wtih subspace. The faster you are treated for stroke, the better your chances of survival and recovery.

FangsNfeet, My plan is to call the doctor the hospital gave me the name of tomorrow at 8:01am. The thing that confuses me is that my blood pressure has been running really 'normal'. Could my ongoing headaches/migraines be a result of this stroke? Thanks again for everything, Kali

Yep, take medications and watch out for neurologists. Some of them are great, but others are whack jobs. I was diagnosed with epilepsy by one when I had a small adrenal gland tumor. I'm sure you have a good one, but I'd ask about some of their fellowships (or at least the head of the unit's fellowships). Add some tea to your diet. Most tea has an ideal amount of caffeine to help open up some blood vessels along with whatever is prescribed. Oh, and I mean black, white, or green tea which are all from a very specific plant, not the herbal ones. Good luck with your appointments to come. It's frustrating to deal with issues that are difficult to understand.

There are two types of stroke. One is a rupture or blown blood vessel much like poping a vein on your arm. This rupture is caused by the continous beating of blood pulses due to high blood pressure. The other type of stroke is caused by a blood clot. This is your case. You can have perfect blood pressure and still have blood clots. Blood clots can be caused by a number of many factors envolving diet, life style, genetics, heart rhythems, etc..... Anyways, both types of strokes prevent adequet amonut of blood and oxygen to the brain. I pray that you get good news in the morning. One of two small clots that can be knocked out with a blood thinner. Please keep us posted.

sigh i really don't possess enough patience to be a good or model patient... i called the neurologists office today and they can't get me in until the 20th.... i really thought i had done my time being the patient before my thyroid was removed when i was diagnosed with graves disease. Okay, well the neurologist i saw is a complete jerk...He clearly had his mind made up before he ever came in the room.... He ordered an MRI and called me and told me "it's fine, no need for further testing, no need for further doctor's, everything fine." Except I had already gotten a copy of the MRI report in which he said the lesions in my brain are more symptomatic of Virchow-Robin spaces than a lacunar infarction. I have no idea what this means? Any ideas? Kali

One thing you might do is call the neurology ward of your local hospital, and ask to speak to one of the RN's. Ask her who she would use for a neurologist, and see who ever she says. Nurses know who is good and who is ... not. Another place to call would be the local ER - and same procedure. I sent my (then)husband to a doctor, told him she had no bedside manner, but was a great doctor. After seeing her, he agreed. If they know what they are doing, they can have the personality of House for all i care. I just want them to know what they are doing.

Honestly, i was thinking about this as i was getting ready to have the MRI done....i'd be okay with someone like House because at least then i would know they knew what they were doing................sadly...........not so much................ Kali
