This is something I have been using for many many years.

Firstly at the beginning it is a matter of simply observing, meditating and learning the energy path the pain runs sending its signals to the brain. Then over months you concentrate on moving the end point of that energy to another part of the brain where you can still be aware of the fact there is pain there but without suffering the effects.

More like you are seeing a signal, a flashing light on a console which warns you that you need to account for the fact the pain level is rising despite those signals not reaching the place where they are normaly processed.

This has worked for me for well over a decade as my condition has gotten worse. and for the majority of the time I don't have to take any medication, dispite the fact that the pain specialists wanted to put me on morphine derivatives because they had run out of other options back then.

When things are at its worse then it blows past my control and I simply have to cope, but at least I know that with normal medication and a bit of time I will be back in control of it a few hours later.

Hope that helps. It did for me and enabled me to be able to take my life back.

If the insomnia is pain related then I very much doubt it as that takes management of the pain and the insomnia is a secondary effect.

For people who have primary cause insomnia then it might help, but really it doesn't seem to do anything the person shouldn't be able to do for themself.

IMO at least.

I hope it helps. I know for me it has done so far far more than I ever initialy believed possible. But it does take a long time to perfect. Heck I know there is a lot more improvement I could make myself and I have been doing it for over a decade.

Good luck

dearest candy stipper,im so sorry you are in any kind of pain and i don't know what you mean
ask your pharmacy for emla creme
your having a tattoo ,or electrolosis, and your dr recommended it....rubb it in and ,all over ;it goes into the blood stream fast and you can loose track of time if you put enuff on and keep on adding it everytime you feel anything,if pharmacy wants perscription say the dr. will mail it or tell them to call your dr and have a dr yes; get rid of the know it all, dr no ,in your life.
what kind of pain?
how come you have it
where is it
a blatant type of guided imagry was used on me when i opted for no anethesia plastic surgery(my usual preference is always local if possible;cause i'm always afraid i will be put to sleep with some dumb-az and, never wake up)
you must also breathe slower as,in very deep and much less ,and very steady ;control your breathing,no matter how the pain is elevating your breathing tendancy to rapid ;shallow;rates,or once in pain we go ,into faster breathing ,towards hyperventalating....
the nurse placed her finger between the brows on the supracilliary arch muscle ,and put slight pressure ,and moved up ,to smooth it ,in the thrid eye area.
it works to relax and focus on the feeling or relaxation-sensation ,instead of pain.
i dont know what you mean by atm
or pain
only atm i know is money
the amazing thing is the breathing and facial expressions are the same in pain as they are in sex
ie; eyes-squinting and, breathing rates increase....moans etc. ....

methods by which one can attempt to cope with pain depends on the cause, type, and intensity of the pain!!! before you can expect any pertinent recommendations or suggestions, you might consider describing and detailing the pain to which you refer! pain resulting from an infected wound is different than the pain of an open fracture. the pain of a second degree burn is different than the pain from an avulsion injury.

solutions vary depending on the source.

I agree we need more info to give advise on pain. I have arthritis in my lower joints and massive headaches. Every couple of days I take an hour long hot bath and basically sleep in it. The heat leaves me exhausted and shaking, but I can move around like nothing is wrong with my joints for the next couple of days and my headaches are managable. It truely works. I had times before when I couldnt walk up the entire stairs without taking it easy or stopping for a breather. I used to be on tylenol 3 for my headaches and still cried from the pain. Like I said, no one can tell I have a problem now that I have been doing the soaking thing. I hope this helps.

I'm going to agree with RavenMuse that the sort of things he mentioned can be incredibly powerful ways of dealing with pain or simply relaxing once you start to get the hang of it. It's also rather helpful with staying calm/focused if something bad happens.

As for insomnia, depends on the cause... but I found that green death flavor nyquil did a good job of lettinging me have a few good hours when I had an exposed nerve in a tooth and had to wait for the dentist to open back up because of a weekend when I "nah, I can live with it till tuesday... actually I start my weekend on thursday, can we schedule it then" on a friday.

Master has arthritis and is often in pain. He has given up pain meds because they upset His tummy badly (nausea and a general "icky" feeling, and no appetite). I know this is illegal but He has found smoking pot to be beneficial. It helps with nausea, gives Him some appetite when He gets the munchies and helps Him sleep (he also has insomnia). Three or four small cones a night work wonders. And if it doesn't help at times, well then He is comfortably stoned and doesn't really care [;)][:)]

Lots of folk find it a beneficial and non-toxic remedy for insomnia, pain, nausea, anxiety, etc. thankfully, the voters in the great states of California, Arizona, Oregon, Hawaii, Alaska, Nevada, Washington, Montana, Colorado, Vermont, Rhode Island and Maine have compassionately passed state law that allows marijuana to be consumed by those with medical needs. Other states, such as New York, have "decriminalized" posession of small amounts for personal use in that if caught by authorities, it is treated as a traffic infraction, a citation is issued and a small fine is paid.

Recently, viewed as a victory to patients in the state of California, the California Highway Patrol has agreed to uphold the state law, in spite of federal law prohibiting it, and will not confiscate your medicine--if you have a valid prescription-- if discovered during a traffic stop.

For many who are allergic, have severe reactions to or just aren't getting relief from the toxic chemicals in over-the-counter and prescription pharmaceuticals, "Dope", as Cstripper puts it, is life-saving medicine.

Candy; deep meditation can sometimes help with physical pain. If you want to try some techniques, email me on the other side and I'll send some to you. They are harmless, just ways of letting your body and mind relax so that you can focus on the pain and attempt to control it.

complicatedmind -> RE: Coping With Physical Pain (2/6/2006 4:32:17 PM)

Depending on the type of pain a new pillow can work wonders. Is it the assorted body aches and pains causing you to be uncomfortable in any position for more than an hour, which leads to sleeplessness? If so try a U-shaped memory foam pillow. It provides body support in any position by wrapping around you. I got mine on ebay and it literally changed my life by letting me sleep more than an hour at a time and wake up without feeling crippled.
