Oh, I'm sorry, but I totally disagree with that. The common theme is that most of them want what they think is best for themselves, and their vision for an ideal America is one which they think offers them the greatest opportunity to get that. They just wrap themselves in the largest flag they can get their hands on and say it's what's best for the country. As a group, Americans are by nature incredibly self-centered people.

For a country that values free speech to allow itself to get so....fundamentalist......well, i hope i'm not the only one to see that irony.

It starts with the sense of moral superority so common among Americans. They're not just convinced their way is the best way; they're absolutely certain it's the only way. The extension of that way of thinking is that anyone who thinks something different, or does something a different way, or says something different, is not just wrong but morally flawed.

So now it's not just a disagreement, now it's a clash of good versus evil. The opposing point of view must not only not be allowed to go unchallenged, it must not go unpunished. It  must not be tolerated. It must be defeated, for the good of the country and all that is holy. And off we go...

I disagree that American's feel morally superior to everyone else. Just morally superior to those who's beliefs are inconsistent with the Judaeo/Christian ethic. And once again, anyone who doesnt think they are morally superior to anyone are either guilty of moral equivalency or they would change their moral code to one that is superior.

And the claim that the US is "fundamentalist" is BBC hogwash.

Who says I was quoting you, just summarizing the gist of the thread as I understood it......get over yourself Kirata.

When you reply to me, I tend to think you're replying to me. Silly, I know. My apologies. I accept your explanation that you just felt moved to provide a "summary" for the reading impaired.

K.

Your apology is accepted in the spirit in which it was delivered......BTW,Collarme has this nasty little habit of addressing a post based on what criteria I haven't a clue,......Silly,I know.....just the way it is.Deal with it.

No. Just odd looks and the occasional "are you lost?"

Up, and to the right.  It's a pretty simple system, Mike

We were discussing a general post, not one in which I choose to quote someone,Kirata got a little bent as a result of thinking a general post was an attempt to parphrase him(though in fairness it was a pretty good summation of his post).... thanks for the help anyway Rich.

Are you actually claiming that Christian ethics are the most "morally superior" on the planet?

(though in fairness it was a pretty good summation of his post)

My post said...

There have been (at last count) 236 comments posted to that letter, some critical, most not, and some that say things like, "you just told my story," and, "your letter of amends could have been written by me." So it would appear that regardless of whether or not the letter is a fake, what's "tragically obvious" is that the sentiment it expresses is not.

Your "pretty good summation" of my post was...

Let me see if I have this straight. One shitty letter,236 comments....and"leftist" liberals should ,based on the exaggerated parody of actual liberal positions,re-evaluate their political positions......let me know how that works out heh.

Who knew false memories were so common, eh?

K.

Yes Kirata I took information contained within your post and replied,in general,to some other posters comments on the import to liberal Democrats...again get past yourself,it isn't all about you.

It's not about me at all. It's about you. Your post was not "a pretty good summation" of mine, or even close, and to claim otherwise misrepresents my views, an obnoxious practice that I don't appreciate, and will point out again if it continues.

And try as I might,I can't garner any concern at all over this.
First you bitched about what you assumed was a direct reply to you.
Now your bitching that in a follow-up,when I conceded how you might have drawn that conclusion...you bitch that the connection isn't there.Make up your mind, though no matter what you decide I am done with it.....from here on out you can play alone.
