After reading a couple of other articles, I think the realization didn't actually take place untill the mutual friend had seen one of the biological mothers at a younger age. She assumed it was the daughter in the other family and asked if they knew her. That family said "No, that's our mom back in school." I'm not sure how much time lapsed between when the friend seen the picture and finally told both parties.

As far as genetics, both women have children and grandchildren. Genetic factors can still play a role to them. I still don't know about the parents who had there children swaped. If they have passed on, the knowledge of cancer, alzhimers, parkinsins, and such are big things to consider.

~FR~

This'll never happen after mandatory RFID chips are implemented!  [:D]

On a more serious note, I really don't understand what the big deal is. What does knowing that they were switched at birth (56 years ago) change now? The answer is (or should be): absolutely nothing. What's the moral dilemma?

LOL...34 years ago, after bathing, they gave my mother a baby boy (she'd had the Twillight drug) and she said, "No, i remember the Dr. Saying it was a girl"...sure enough, another family was "ooing" and "aahing" over me down the hall. Pretty safe to say it wouldn't have taken 56 years....the other family was white. i think in about 56 hours, there would have been some questions asked, either way. Mom's joke has always been "...As ugly as that other  baby was, they didn't want to hand you back over right away..." Harsh![:D]

I don't know anything about this, but maybe they take the lil id bracelets off when bathing, and then couldn't remember who's was who's upon time to put them back on so they guessed?

Why didn't they have the little identifying wrist bracelets with their names on them, that hospitals all give at birth?
