Vendaval -> Pfizer Inc. offering free Rx meds to unemployed patients (5/14/2009 11:07:08 AM)

Pfizer Inc. is offering free prescription medications for patients who were taking their medications for 3 months or longer and have lost their jobs since Jan 1, 2009.  Excerpt following, details on the link below.

"The 70-plus drugs covered in the program include several diabetes drugs and some of Pfizer's top money makers, from cholesterol fighter Lipitor and painkiller Celebrex to fibromyalgia treatment Lyrica and Viagra for impotence. Drugs from several other popular classes such as antibiotics, antidepressants, antifungal treatments, heart mediations, contraceptives and smoking cessation products also are included. Cheaper generic versions are available for quite a few of the drugs."

Ofcourse it is. They have already made more than plenty off these patients who need these drugs to live. You have to keep your customers alive so they can get new jobs and start buying the medications again. It's a good investment. Dead patients can't buy drugs.

And did you notice :

"Cheaper generic versions are available for quite a few of the drugs." ?

For some reason the railroads and the Sherman anti-trust act come to mind. Surely this tears into the competition's profit margin.

{this response assumes that there is no desire to keep people dependent upon their product and that they are unaware that most of these drugs are actually toxic}Yeah right.

I am not a fan of major pharmaceutical companies but if someone who needs prescriptions has lost their job/benefits I hope they can get some assistance.

This is just off the top of my head, but IMO only about ten percent of the drugs prescribed today are really needed.

Pfizer gives away nearly triple it's profits in goodwill each year.  They are not nearly as bad as the media makes them out to be.

I doubt the Sherman Act would come into play here... There is no restraint of trade, nor is the outcome likely to create a monopoly.  Add to that the fact that the give-away is going thhrough a non-profit entity, not Pfizer itself...
