This is more of a general girly question.

I got an IUD (intro uterine device)as a means of birth control about a week ago. I got the copper, non hormonal one.

Before having the insertion done I did my research... I know about the cramping, the spotting between periods, possible complications, but one side effect that I've experienced that I didn't read about is increasing wetness an almost constant arousal.

At night, when I wake up for any number of reasons, I find that I am in a little puddle. I have experienced wet dreams and all that before, but the wetness is to an abnormal extent for me. there is no pain (aside from the expected cramping) and no foul smell.

I am also constantly aroused. Normally, it's easy to get me going, but sense the IUD I don't even need the get going part, I'm always there. I've probably masturbated 1-2 times a night every night for the past week, unless I cum from fucking Daddy, but even then I don't feel satisfied.

The problem isn't just at night, it happens all day, making me feel self conchs when in public.

I've been on the pill before, I didn't have these reactions or whatever, I just went nuts from the hormones... it might have been the hormones that lowered sex drive and all before, but then why did it just start when I got the IUD... I was off all birth control for over 9 months, with the exception of condoms.

So what's going on?... Have any of you other ladies with IUD's ever experienced this kind of thing?

Shylah

I had an IUD 29 years ago. I feel cheated because I did not get any of that.

All I got was a daughter. (Do not panic, it is my genetics. The women, in my family, can get pregnant just thinking about sex)

Were you on the pill previously? Because if so, this may be your natural state and the pill suppressed it. It could also be your hormones swinging the other way after getting off the pill and you will settle down in a few months.

In the meantime, wear that man out!

The constant arousal COULD be the psychological thing of feeling safe from pregnancy.  A lot of pregnant women go through the same thing.  Not having that "fear" of an undesired consequence can really rev the hell out of your libido.  HOWEVER, you really need to talk to your doctor about this.  The wetness, odor or not, should be a major concern to you.  It might very well be nothing, but it really should be checked out by your doctor.  They should be able to give you some idea right over the phone if this isn't unusual.  I wouldn't spend a lot of time on these boards hoping for an answer, but get them from a doctor.  I reallize that it might be a little embarassing to tell your doc that you now seem to want sex all the time and seem to be self lubricating at an alarming rate, but if something is wrong and you DON'T tell the dr., the consequences could be much worse than a little embarassment.  Of course if it is normal, enjoy it for as long as it lasts!

FR -

I tried various IUD's many years ago, and had the same reaction.  My doctor explained that my body was recognizing the irritation of a foreign object, and was trying to expel it.  Twice I did have it come out and once it shifted because of the extra lubrication.  Each time I had one put in, once I made it past the first few weeks, my body seemed to adjust and everything went back to normal.

I'm sure that they have improved these over the years, but please contact your doctor and have them make sure that yours has not moved, and that your body's response isn't going to increase the chances of it moving in the future.

I'm planning on trying the Mirena soon.  I have been on the pill a couple months, which has sucked bigtime.  I had never been on them before.  After my last child, the ex had got the big V, so until leaving him, I had no worry for it.  Should be interesting to see what happens.  Thanks for sharing the experiences.

Good morning!
I have to agree that it is most likely to due to either hormones although you said it doesn't contain hormones. I was on the pill for years with no side effects, then a patch which made me gain some weight. Peri-menopause hit this past year and am now on Joelessa -the one that gives you 4 periods a year-so that my hormones can even out. I was always real dry and it would burn and itch and feel like I am sticking together on the inside...still do sometimes. But not as bad. But that seems to go along with your wetness, hormones.
I know it is such a change to routine but maybe wearing a thin pantiliner at night? They make them really thin nowadays, I was impressed when I saw it. Because I am more wet and lubricated now than before so I have to start wearing panties so it IS a challenge but hey, we are women and that is how we roll. LOL Good luck!
Love,
Zechriel

I was thinking along the same lines, I had an IUD a couple of years ago and while I wasn't always aroused, I definitely had a much stronger sex drive than on the pill, but the OB gyn had warned me about that and said in a lot of cases of women having been on the pill for years, once they get an IUD they usually start an affair or have a one-night stand straight away, as the pill suppresses the female sex drive in most women, which makes sense as it simulates pregnancy...

~FR~

Kinda off topic, but make sure you look up the symptoms of Copper Poisoning/Allergy as well. Sometimes these can develop with the copper types of IUDs and if you see it happening, start cataloging and go to your doctor to keep them informed.

I have the paragard (copper) IUD too, and also have increased discharge. But, I was on hormones up until I got the IUD, so any change in my sex drive was probably due to coming off the pills.

Just a guess but I'm going with irritation due to a foreign body.
I suspect a simple call to the doc will answer your question.
When you make that call, if you'd update the thread so we all know what the outcome was, that would be cool.
Best wishes,
  Davan

I'm having a similar issue. The dr put me on estrogen for 20 days, with the theory that it's caused by the IUD working *too* well and the estrogen will stabilize it. (start it next week, here's hoping - b/c everything else about mirena is awesome)
