hi A/all,
i was just wondering if anyone knows anyone, (bad english i know, appologises) who could possible build/construct a convertable St. Andrews Cross, basically it folds into something like a large plant stand. This is something  myself and a Mistress friend of mine have been looking at for a few months, though we have had various offers, whenever it comes down to them actually building it, they disappear. if anyone can help please contact me and we can take things from there, i do have pics of what We/i are seeking.
once again thankyou

Hello nicola1tg,

Logistically, it wouldn't seem like this would be a problem.  I've never seen one made that folds like that, but I have seen crosses that break-down fairly easy in a few minutes.  The hardest parts would be how the system would lock into place and be sturdy enough when put to it's primary function, and how the device would be placed for functionality.  Plenty of hinges would do the trick as far as flexibility, and dual-purpose "arms" that could lock in two positions.  It would be nice if you could upload your pictures/drawings to take a look at, and get a better feel for what you have in mind.  Are you thinking wood, metal, or a combination of the two?

I can think of a few different ways to make one that would break down for easy transportation.  What did ya' have in mind?

my thoughts are of telescoping steel legs that would reduce the size of the cross first then it would fold back at the intersection point of the cross. Creating a four legged small table like stand.

ahh.. it sounds like you are looking for the  ones that were at... (foxy furniture?)  I had the impression that the company went out of business... the also had a couple other pieces of 'ordinary' furniture that converted into play equipement (sigh)
If I remember correctly..  the sides of the plant stand were the 4 legs of the cross and they connected in the middle via a  steel plate and bolts,  it still needs the  wall brace/knickknack shelf though...
I'm sorry I can't help more... that's all I remember about it

I just bought what is called a BREAKDOWNABLE CROSS from a company in Phoenix AZ. It is very well made and very sturdy. It breaks down and assembles in minutes.

The owner can customize any thing you want to build. His name is Mike.

You can still download the plans for a lot of their hidden furniture from foxy-furniture's website:
