Laws that take away rights from convicted felons are PUNISHMENTS for people who HURT INNOCENT PEOPLE. It's reactionary and thus just.  Hmm. If you can take a right away as a punishment then it was not a right. Because it's reactionary it's just huh? Maybe like a retroactive 95% tax?

As for the law prohibiting people not born in the United States from becoming President, guess what? I'm against that law and fully believe it should be changed.     That law is there to keep our country from becoming a vassal state. Which has happened numerous times throughout history. If you wish to keep this a country governed by Americans, this law cannot be changed.

You just don't understand anything about the United States if you think that way.
Hmm.

Are naturalized citizens not Americans?

The "no foreign born presidents" law is a sound one... there are reasons behind it... look them up.

Yep, but I think that many will end up with "dual-citizenship" status.  Depends on their home countries laws.

Don't you have to renounce your old citizenship to become a U.S. citizen?

They are. But loyal to whom? I travel all over the country and In Georgia no matter which interstate you come in on the trees are lined up along the highway to welcome you home. I was born in Georgia. No matter where I move to, Georgia will always be considered home. People tend to be connected to the places they are born.

You don't want the king of France/ Germany/ Spain ruling your country. A funny thing is if Germany would have had such a law back during the nazi times hitler would have been barred from ruling.

Explain

DreamGoddess666 -> RE: Prop 8 ruling makes me wanna kill people... (5/29/2009 10:20:14 PM)

There is no basis for keeping naturalized citizens from being the President.

tazzygirl -> RE: Prop 8 ruling makes me wanna kill people... (5/29/2009 10:20:20 PM)

Sodomy laws are only enforced as the are written in the books by three states.  the military has their own set of no no rules towards the act.  dont confuse it with rape, please.  the act can be a loving act between two people... or a violent crime.  federal law was supposed to take away the "entry" rule.[;)]

after all we have been through as a country, you can honestly say that.  i do believe you need to do some homework before stating such.

just because you don't agree with the law does not make you right and it wrong.

The reasons were not, I gather, compelling enough for you to be able to remember or articulate them?

This came out when people started thinking of Arnold running for president.

There is no rule against holding duel-citizenship status.  Although naturalizing citizens are required to undertake an oath renouncing previous allegiances, the oath has never been enforced to require the actual termination of original citizenship.  And there is no issue with a naturalized citizen leaving the US and taking up again their citizenship status in their original country.

There is a basis. You are simply ignorant of it. By choice it seems. But I will try and find a link of the founding fathers words.

Arpig -> RE: Prop 8 ruling makes me wanna kill people... (5/29/2009 10:37:18 PM)

Taht's an intersting little article, yet it reallydoesn't explain why such a restriction is needed. In Canada we have no such restriction on the offices of Prime Minister or Governor General. I do not see the issue with a naturalised citizen being the head of state, hopefully someone can explain it to me.

tazzygirl -> RE: Prop 8 ruling makes me wanna kill people... (5/29/2009 10:39:39 PM)

what part of that didnt you understand?  i thought it pretty obvious the intent of the founding fathers

but i will attempt to portray what could happen now.  lets say another country/religion decides to come here with many citizens.  they all become natural citizens, pass the tests, take the oath, ect.  then they all run.  the taliban would be an interesting one, no?  care to speculate on the outcome?
