Loganberries are NOT lingonberries!  And yes, I know it is "skan", but I say scone with a long O, as does most of america.  They sell the lingonberries at Ikea.

Damnit, Lady Hib.  Could you please enlighten me about the following points:

1.  What is a 'faux-scone'?
2.  What is a 'lingonberry'?
3.  How is the word "sausage" used in the U.S. of Sunny A?  I didn't think you had them there.

Ask her about pasties! You won't get the answer you're expecting, but you'll definitely find it educational!

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Let me entertain you... (5/27/2009 6:16:12 PM)

Oh!  My friend's bf made pasties, with the rutabaga and everything!!  Do not make me hungry for what is not immediately available! [:@]

I used to be a stand-up comic, hundreds of years ago. I still know more parrot jokes than any other human being in the history of human beings.

Does that mean that I haven't heard them all? [:o]

Ah-ha! I thought that one would flush you out of the shrubbery!

Well, let's see... do you know what joke goes with this punchline -

"Alright, you win. But just tell me one  thing. The chicken... what did he do?"

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Let me entertain you... (5/27/2009 6:19:12 PM)

Is that the frozen bird one? Or the one in the oven?

Hey, you're probably closer to 'em than I am! Well, except for the one I have in my freezer from the last time I was up on the Iron Range. But frozen pasties don't really count.

I really need to learn to make them. I've taken a few shots at creating a recipe from scratch, but I've never been happy with the outcome. I really need to do some googling; someone must have  a recipe up someplace.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Let me entertain you... (5/27/2009 6:22:51 PM)

If I want pasties, I buy them.  Who wants a skillion pasties---think how big a rutabaga IS??  I had some of the best luxury pasties in traverse city ages ago, roast beef and sour cream, chicken tarragon...  they got some UPMARKET miners there! [:D]

And HEY!!  It's not ME that's been in the shrubbery, little mister!  I am way prone to bug bites and poison ivy.

Frozen bird, but oven would work too. The basic joke is probably pretty much the same. Uncivilized parrot refuses to behave properly, owner keeps escalating the punishments, finally teaches the bird a lesson by popping him in the freezer for ten minutes, where the parrot sees a plucked and butchered chicken and has a "come to jesus" moment.

Alright, how about this one -

"OK. I give up. What'd you do with the ship?"

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Let me entertain you... (5/27/2009 6:24:27 PM)

Ya got me on that one.  NOT that I am asking for the joke, mind you, just saying!

Whenever Jeddie got fiesty in the early years I had him I would look at him meaningfully and say "parrot fricassee!".  He was not impressed.

Chicken tarragon? Wow. Sounds good, but seems almost... sacrilegious. I can't buy 'em here in the stores, too many Swedes and not enough Finns. I can get them up in the old mining communities on the  Iron Range, like Two Harbors, but that's a bit of a drive.

And the rutabaga dilemma is easily solved - put half in the fridge and boil it up with some carrots, some new potatoes, and some brussels sprouts. It's so healthy, one bowl of that will add 3 years to your life. 4, if you skip the butter and salt. I promise.

That's why it's such a devilishly good hiding place for you! The parrot would never guess you're spying in him from there...

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Let me entertain you... (5/27/2009 6:32:48 PM)

Brussels sprouts have GOT to be the most disappointing food in the world.  They taste like tiny CABBAGES!  And I do not like cabbage.

The bird INSISTS that my eye is on him at all times!  Of course he does not get his way...

That's not as funny as the other one. It's a magician who gets a job on a cruise ship, but the captain has a parrot, and the parrot ruins every one of the magician's tricks by telling the audience how it works. "He's hiding the coin between his fingers... awk! The hat has a double bottom! Awk!" The magician's getting madder and madder, but he can't do anything, because it's the captain's parrot. So one night, in the middle of a show, the ship hits an iceberg and sinks in seconds. The magician and the parrot are the only 2 survivors, floating on a big piece of wood and glaring at each other in stone cold hatred for 3 days. Finally, the parrot breaks down and asks, "OK, I give up. Where's the ship?"

They just lend themsleves to jokes. It's their own fault, you know, for being able to talk.

You're lucky nobody taught him to respond with "Tippi Hedron.... bwahahahaha!"

For you? Of course! I would learn.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Let me entertain you... (5/27/2009 6:38:35 PM)

Tippi was swarmed with NON PSITTACINES.  Sheesh.

Oh, are we off topic now?  Sorry. I hope we entertained y'all, anyway!!  Just for those inquiring minds, I am going to have the sausages for dinner, since I need a protein thing. [:)]

Well, yeah, but ya know... they probably all have certain allegiances and loyalties and treaties and such. I would expect, anyway.

Takes too long to thaw the chicken?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Let me entertain you... (5/27/2009 6:42:01 PM)

Birds are a non-food.  Unless they are covered in gravy.

LadyPact -> RE: Let me entertain you... (5/27/2009 6:44:10 PM)

I'm actually rather easy to entertain.  Almost anyone can do it by doing just about any kind of thing.  I tend to think this is different than the way a lot of people see Me, since I'm so big on protocol.  The other part of that is that I am very easy to please.

I'm exceptionally inquisitive by nature.  No matter who you are, what you do, the hobbies you have, or other things you enjoy, I will have tons of questions for you and I will most likely be fascinated by the answers that you have.  To Me, that is entertainment.  I'm learning about you and whatever topic has come up.

Make Me laugh!  It doesn't even matter how you do it.  You could be telling Me jokes, watching stand up with Me, or a funny movie.  I have a pretty good sense of humor and I enjoy laughing.  (Why do you folks think I like this place so much?  It's funny!)

Take Me somewhere.  I'm lucky enough to live in a location that, if someone is willing to do the driving, I could go to a munch or a meet and greet just about any night of the week.  Yes, it might mean a drive to Atlanta or South Carolina, but that's an adventure!  This is actually a double win because on the drive there and back, I get the conversation where I get to ask My tons of questions that I like so much.  Of course, certain people in My life will tell you, after an interesting drive, a good meal with like minded folks, and a content smile on My face, there's a good chance that I'll fall asleep during the return ride home.

Lockit -> RE: Let me entertain you... (5/28/2009 10:08:11 AM)

Thank you to everyone who responded!  This is just something that struck me and I wondered about it all.  I think in many to most situations, one would choke up if someone asked them to entertain them.  I also think that there may be some gender differences that come into play with entertainment and what entertains us.  Women seem to be able to go the dance for him route and it made me curious about what a woman would want in entertainment and what a submissive would do or think of to entertain her.

I don't like most exotic or dirty dancing... I guess because of my own dance and how I view it.  I have seen male dancers and for the most part... want no part of the bump and grind... but erotic dancing without the cheap shots for lack of a better word... I love.  In a man or a woman.

For males unless they have a talent that could be used to entertain us... like music or humor, it is harder to come up with something it seems and with what most dominant's are saying... which I agree to, it is more in the day to day things that we find the entertainment.

I guess I wondered how comfortable one would be if they were told to entertain someone.  I do have to admit...lol... I did think it might be some uncomfortable, scary even... humiliation for some and a mind fuck type of thing, but wasn't sure and am still not sure that would be a good thing and not at all sure how that would go!  Setting someone up to fail wouldn't be good, yet I was curious! lol  Maybe I just need to get a complete thought in my head before I start asking questions! lol

I was once owned by a woman who was a bit of a fan of my passion at that time of competitive speech, especially interpretative oratory. I would usually write a story and then interpret it for national competition. Well, this Mistress loved to have me perform it for her first. She took GREAT pleasure in it. Sometimes she would demand it be performed in some specific way (I'll let you use your imaginations as she was often quite good at using hers); other times, she just wanted it as everyone else would experience it.

When I went to national tournaments with the same material, I quite often imagined she was there in the audience expecting the same level of performance that she first demanded when I was first performing before her.

Lockit -> RE: Let me entertain you... (5/28/2009 4:21:44 PM)

I was thinking of those who love poetry read to them and those artful readers that could interject their personality into it using voice or charactor.  A bit of the actor I would think.  Coming from where I come from in life, I can put on a bit of a show and have always enjoyed someone who could do so as well.  I guess doing some public speaking and some stand up comedy helped me learn to work the crowd and learn timing.  To see it in someone else I find exciting!

I think just finding where someone has a talent is a good way to bring it into some way of entertaining someone else.  Whether that be in normal every day kinds of things or a specific talent.  Highlighting or enhancing a talent is great fun!  There are many who have a talent that are not real secure in it or have hidden it and drawing it out just makes me smile!
