This is just a general question and opinions are very much welcomed.  How do you go about telling a person that their breath smells?  Even though they have brushed their teeth and scraped their tongue in your presence, their breath is a killer.
I've heard that sometimes it could be from medications they are on, beginning cavities, or coming from their stomach.
Also can a person develop cold sores on their lip after kissing another that had perform on their body just that quick?  Are cold sores contagious?  If a person performs oral on another can they develop cold sores that quick, and can it be transmitted to the person they were performing oral on their private parts?

Bad breath can be caused by a number of things, and the best bet is to have a physical exam and a dental exam to see what is going on. Everything from diabetes to gingivitis can cause bad breath, and the smell is different, depending on what the problem is. Professionals know what to look for.

As for the cold sore... yes, cold sores are contagious. They're a form of Herpes virus (herpes simplex). You can get infected from kissing, but also from doing things like sharing a drinking straw or cup, lipstick or lip balm, or a toothbrush, or even from touching it and then touching your own face/mouth. The herpes virus can lay dormant in the body for extended periods of time, and often does so, only to bust out during periods of illness or stress (which is how 'cold sores' came to be called 'cold' sores--because the compromised immune system of the common cold would allow the virus to activate every time the person 'caught cold').

Definitely a trip to the dentist and doctor.

I knew a man that had the worst breath I had ever encountered. Turns out he had cancer that wasn't diagnosed until far too late.

People can have bad breath from not eating enough and lack of carbs. Aside from that I know someone who had horible breath due to periodntal disease. Having a precedure on the gums  did the trick and their breah is now fine.

Cold sores are herpees and are contagious in the saame way as any virus.

I'm just hitting on the breath issue....

Even though you ("you" meaning people in general) brush your teeth and scrape your tongue, you can still have bad breath if you have tooth decay, gum disease, or if you don't brush and/or scrape your tongue waaaaayyyyy to the back.  Just like blow jobs, if you're not gagging, you're not doing it thoroughly.

Re: bad breath
Brushing, flossing, tongue brushing/scraping and perhaps a different mouthwash.
I like DenTek flossers.
They might help.

Health and dental evaluations are important.

Yes, cold sores are contagious.
Yes, even though it is a different herpes simplex strain than the one that causes genital herpes you can transmit the oral strain to someone's genitals.

Try swishing with peroxide, or nystatin, don't eat or drink sugars before bed or after cleaning the mouth. Bad breath is usually a sign of bacteria in the mouth and under the teeth and gums, the person may just need, for awhile, to be much more fastidious. Avoid swishing with alcoholic mouthwashes, and as always, a little hurt can save alot of pain, be direct, it's better that way.

Adding a bit more of info on the cold sores discussion: though the types of hsv that cause oral and genital sores are different, the fact that they can jump from one locale to another with exposure means that if you're being tested, it's pretty prudent to test for both types (The 2 types are lumped together in the std reporting numbers).  Some doctors wish only to diagnose via visual exam.  This is not thorough.  A blood test can tell a person if they have one or both sorts.  It's not generally done as a standard part of an std/sti screen, so you may have to ask for and even demand that it be done but it really is as simple as a little blood.

Adding to the list of things that can cause bad breath - abscessed tonsils! Had a patient once who had such bad breath that i mentioned it to his doctor - turned out it was a valuable symptom.  *pats self on the back*
