i have something i prize high above any collar i could have been gifted by my Mistress.
What i consider my collar is a leather necklace with silver beads, and in the center hangs a small teardrop vial filled with Her blood.
It is very special to me in a way that also has religious meaning. Also, to the outside world, it simply looks like a pretty red glass pendant on a nice piece of leather.
Basically, my point is i think you can use whatever you want, hell, i think you could even give her a shirt she wears all the time, if it represents to you what a collar would. i don't think it's the piece nearly so much as the meaning.
Of course, a nice D-ring collar has some practical uses you might want to condier ~.^
