You may have missed the many topics we have had, where most agree about the bad things that have happened at Gitmo. Most have also agreed on the solutions. So do you have any new solutions?

I was curious about the views of those that still support Gitmo. I'm also curious about the views of those who used to support Gitmo but since changed their minds. What made them change their minds? But yeah... solutions... Close Gitmo. Get all of the prisoners still there fair trials. Send the guilty to jail and free the not guilty. If their home countries won't take them for whatever reason, find a country that will. Pay reparations to those who have suffered wrongly. No more torture by the US. Prosecute those responsible from the Bush administration.

The Guantanamo Bay abuses began with the Bush administration. If there is a strong enough case to prosecute people beyond that administration, I say go forward.

This is the same logic as saying why do people support prisons after one inmate is exonerated by DNA evidence.

If the prison system were populated by people who were kidnapped from foreign countries and held for years without access to the court system or even counsel, you might have a valid point. But since they are not, you do not.

Where to begin? If we go by letter of the law, we could likely charge several ex presidents. Yes but this time it would gain them nothing, so they would turn it down. When President Clinton started the extraordinary rendition with Egypt, they had a stake in it since some/most(???) of those captured were wanted by the Egyptians. Looking back several admins, I believe Jimmy Carter's is the only one that would not be brought up on charges, either against international law or US law.
