And this is what I hope public awareness of these issues will avoid. If military action needs to be taken, it needs to be done long before things are perfected by NK. Hopefully China and Russia can do something, but I question their incentives to do so with their new alliance with India, Brazil and possibly Iran. This crazy alliance was predicted on one of the talk shows I watch from time to time, but if I mention the name a mob will form with pitch forks and torches (no it was not Hannity or O'Reily).

I think China needs to tap ol' Kim on the shoulder and say "Listen little funny-haired man, we don't need you testing nukes on OUR border. Knock it off."

Why do that when NK can and is an ally against other alliances in the world? Also, maybe the Chinese believe they can control him, or they are controlling him for some unknown purpose. China has always been their biggest supporter, so there are going to be many within each government that owe each other.

To me it wouldn't matter who his allies were. If mexico were to suddenly test a nuke, I'm sure we'd peek south and tell them to knock it off. Same with canada.

If *I* were in charge of China, I wouldn't want *anyone* testing nukes south of my borders. Anything can and sometimes does go wrong and then my southern area glows for a few thousand years.

Boy that sure sounds dirty in the wrong context.

Comparing the relationship between China and North Korea to the relationship between the US and Mexico, or the US and Canada, is like comparing sub atomic particles to linoleum. There's just no relevant comparison whatsoever.

The only thing China cares about vis a vis North Korea is Kim's political stability. Period. Whether North Korea has nukes is simply irrelevant to them compared to their larger concerns regarding Pyonyang's usefullness as a counterbalance to US interests in the region. Christ, they're the ones who sold North Korea the 20 tons of tributyl phosphate they needed to weaponize their uranium back in 2002, when they were first starting their weapons program. They were instrumental in helping Kim develop nuclear weapons. Why would they suddenly decide it's a bad idea now?

Oh I don't know......suddenly gowing citizens could be one reason.

What reason would they have to believe that their citizens would suddenly start glowing? It's not like the North Koreans are a bunch of neighbor kids playing with giant firecrackers out behind the barn. By all accounts they're running a sophisticated, state of the art nuclear program, staffed by college graduates. Nuclear warheads generally don't go off by accident, and I can't think of any realistic reason the Chinese would seriously worry the North Koreans are likely to be the first country in history to accidentally detonate a nuke.

And even if that is something they're  worried about, it still doesn't answer the question of why it would suddenly occur to the Chinese now, 7 years after they sold them some of the materials they needed to get the program started in the first place. What, the Chinese suddenly slapped their foreheads and said, "Oh, you mean one of those bombs? Shit! Who knew? Silly us!!"? China has known all along that Kim was developing nukes, and it clearly hasn't bothered them enough that they've ever felt compelled to do anything to stop it. The only reason they're cooperating now is because they see it as a bargaining chip, an opportunity to work the tension to their advantage. That's what they do, and that's what they're doing now.And that is the total extent of their interest in this matter.

I saw these earlier tonight. My first thought was "Where's my popcorn, this might get interesting."
