Funny you mention going elsewhere to get jobs. Would have to find it, but apparently illegal border crossing is down also. Not as many want to come into the country as the jobs diminish.

If these unemployment numbers are still this high this time next year, the democrats will be booted out of both Houses in November.

Actual unemployment numbers are much higher. US government routinely provides lower than real estimate by using (specially for this purpose designed) flawed  methodology (explanation at http://www.shadowstats.com ).

Very true.  Some economists felt that unemployment touched 14 to 16 % months ago.

Deregulation got us into this mess.  The financial collapse and the main street collapse were well under way when Obama took over in February.  The fools insisted on tax cuts which economists told them there is little  bang for the buck.  The operative fools in each sentence were republicans.  I guess we will see.  I think that even the least interested citizen will eventually see the source of the sh*t sandwiches.

Yeah, those are the real numbers, the way they've always been calculated. Only recently have they changed the rules to make things look better on paper.

Right now, true unemployment is at just under 22%, comparable to the numbers during the previous great depression, calculated the same way they calculated them then.

" Just 10 days before taking office, Obama's top economic advisers released a report predicting unemployment would remain at 8 percent or below through this year if an economic stimulus plan won congressional approval.
Yet the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that unemployment in May rose to 9.4 percent. "

I think, vastly more interesting than the above, was his comment during the elections; "our programs will create or save (whatever the number was) million jobs".

I still can't believe that no one questioned the absurdity of that statement!

It was as absurd as if he'd said "we will insure that during our administration, there will be periods of light each day, followed by many equally similar periods of dark".

I agree the real numbers are MUCH higher than what is published.
How sad is that?
The REAL unemployment numbers are probably at least 15-20%.
