I think it has to do with the rise in popularity of crime shows. CSI (all varieties), Law and Order, focus on themes that address kink in different ways, most of them don't have a clue but some are ok. The counter culture may have adopted the darker (seeming) elements, barbed wire chain, collars and leashes, visible marks (including various piercings), ect. Ok.. now youth has it so who would like to capitalise on that? Fashion! Ads go up on billboards featuring black and white ads suggesting kink. Magazines not to be outdone prominently display threesomes, and other suggestive scenes. Stores readily sell slutwear for teens and younger. And heck, I never heard of so many people being bi-sexual until the last 15 yrs or so. Now it is trendy to see girls grope each other on dance floors and lick each other on Girls gone wild vids. We are a society of sheep. Trends come and go. This one will be around until the next shock value item grabs our interest. What you see in the media now does now focuses more on the play and very rarely on the reality. Kyst
