Maybe with this new alliance, other countries can start footing more of the international bill for the UN. Rio would be a great place for a new UN building I think.

Yeah that was my idea to move it there;). I am sure having to work during all the Rio celebrations would make for happier diplomats.

You know, I was going to post something about who pays what at the UN, but when I went to look for some hard data, the latest I could find was for 2000. Funny that.

So the thoughts on the new world alliance between Russia, China, India and Brazil? There is also talk of creating a new currency that China and Russia would back.

As for the alliance, I'm not sure what to think other than that it's a rather odd set of bedfellows. It's really difficult to imagine a harmonious partnership between India, China, and Russia. At least one of them is always going to feel as though they're getting sold out by the other two. And they'll probably always be right, too.

And the currency scheme? Sounds like a pipe dream to me. Who's driving this idea? Russia, right? To strengthen the ruble. There's the first crack in the partnership right there, because the Chinese would have to be fools to undermine the dollar when we owe so many to them. I really don't see that as a realistic threat at the moment.

Further thoughts... China's behind this. They have to be. Russia may think they're running it, but it's got to be China. They stand to gain the most from all three of the other countries. If this is a Chinese initiative, I'd have to know more about exactly what they're after in order to form an opinion on the viability of the whole plan.

Well, it sounds like the G20 summit is going to be even more complicated than previously anticipated. Is this bloc going to remain economic only or could it become military as a counter to say, NATO?
