So I have ordered and received a beautiful singletail for my Lady from maker Peter Jack in New Zealand.  It is a 4 foot red and black sixteen plait snake whip in kangaroo leather and it is just lovely.  [:)]

It is a gift for her birthday.

So I received the whip today and while the braided body is indeed 4 feet, there is a 28 inch leather fall and with the cracker, the whip comes in at just over 6 feet.  Much longer than what I had anticipated.

So I thought I would ask you Ladies who own/use singletail whips if you think that length is usable for BDSM play and if being shorter of stature you needed/desired a shorter whip.  A bit late for me to ask this I know, but perhaps we might shorten the 28 inch fall if she finds it too long for easy use...not sure.

Also, the whip is a bit stiff.  Would love any tips on maintaining it and making it more flexible and beautiful as it ages.  Peter included a tin of beeswax to rub into it.

I'm 5'3, and I use both a 3 foot and a 4 foot, with about another foot on each of fall/cracker.  You can get the fall shortened by someone more local if necessary - it's not difficult to do.  The best way to make the piece more flexible is for your Lady to practice with it.  I'm a big believer in the one who is going to use the whip being the one to break it in - it will break in according to her own style, which customizes how the whip will throw.  I usually condition my leather toys about once a year, but I also live in a very humid area.  If you live in a drier area you will need to do it more often.   Leather wipes (found in the car care section of the store and used for leather seats) are great for a quick clean/condition (and great for your leather coat too).
