Here is your continued misconception. One need not be vindictive to laugh at someone.

Kindly do not assume to know what I perceive and what I do not.

If you feel that your behavior is justified, then you need not try to defend yourself against me.  I simply made an observation.

Is it an indication of anything that this topic has as many posts as the one about Iran, less than the one about N Korea or some of the economy issues?

Is America addicted to drama?

Actually Orion, I think that the fun of Sarah Palin is that we cannot take her seriously. Iran, N Korea is scary complicated shit.

As an example, most of the time I prefer to watch programmes on channels like.......The History Channel, National Geographic, etc etc etc. I like learning more about the world. Last night there was a great programme on about Iran. But sometimes, I am tired, my brain just hasn't got the energy, I am emotionally drained and not at all in the mood for serious stuff. Moments like that I watch old episodes of Mash, or Friends or just anything that is funny or comforting in it's pointlessness. Stupid comedy movies do it for other people, romantic comedies for others.

Making fun of Sarah Palin is my stupid comedy away from the worry of North Korea and Iran. One requires no thought, I could solve her problem quite easily....(insert gleeful evil laugh) The other two, there are no easy solutions for. They are complex and again, very scary. I don't have all the information, regardless of how much news I watch, read, whatever......to confidently say "Here is the solution." I doubt anyone really does. That's what makes it so depressing and frightening.

Sarah Palin is neither frightening or depressing. Just mindlessly, stupidly, annoying and entertaining.

Plus, watching all the armchair experts in threads about world events makes me want to order a truckload of sharp sticks. I am not THAT in love with M11.

Too many serious topics.

Sometimes you need some comedy relief.

Though Palin making a serious presidential run would be more tragedy than comedy.

I don't need to presume. You stated it yourself:

That would indicate exactly what your thoughts are on this thread. And it is those thoughts I replied to.

No more scary than that 'asteroid' which may or may not hit us.

The thing they both have in common is we can't do shit about either one......so fuck it. If it happens, it happens.

Here is your continued misconception. One need not be vindictive to laugh at someone. Vindictive would be if her party won and the dems were upset and looking to tear down every little thing she did (kinda like Repubs are doing to Obama).

Or, if I may add to that, if after getting her ass handed to her in the election she had chosen to withdraw from the spotlight and just confined herself to making an ass of herself in Alaska, instead of continuing to force herself to the front of the national stage.

I think the better analogy would be a group of high school students taking satisfaction from watching the school bully fall on her face. Because ever since she took the podium in St. Paul, Palin has been playing the bully. That's the role she chose.

If that is the way you perceive it, then I can understand you standing up for your particular brand of "entertainment".

Me, personally... I don't go that route.  I find vindictiveness to be a failing in most cases.

Maybe I was misunderstanding you before. Are you making a distinction between critizing her and ridiculing her? Is that where you're coming from?

Edited to add: because if that's where you're going, I can understand your point a lot better. I'm still not sure I'd agree, because ridicule and personal attack has been her own weapon of choice, so I consider it fair game when turned back in her direction. But at least I'd have a better understanding of what you're finding fault with.

I don't believe anyone here is defending Palin... or even claimed to be a Palin supporter.

What I have done is point out how this kind of giddy free-for-all reminds me of the behavior of putting someone else down in order to elevate yourself.

If you find Palin to be ridiculous, and if you're the type of person who enjoys ridiculing people, then I can see where you might feel you are perfectly justified in any comments you make.  At least you're honest about it and appear to recognize that others would find you just as ridiculous were you to open yourself to that kind of exposure.

Well, I hate to point out the obvious in your self-righteous sermonizing, but all you have done is ridicule the people you perceive as ridiculing Palin.

I haven't seen you post a word about the original topic of the thread which, in case you forgot or didn't bother to read,  was the numerous ethics lawsuits against her.

...the thing about Sarah Palin is that she gives so much ammunition to satirists.....and satire is a long established, honourable political watchers pursuit. To believe otherwise is to suggest that Mark Twain or Swift served no useful purpose.

I find it ultimately hysterical that anyone would think that ridiculing a person, means you are threatened by them. If that is the best defense a Palin supporter can come up with to attempt to stop the ridicule, well.............that just says an awful lot about their reasons and rational for supporting her. None of it impressive.

To me, the biggest difference is that I know and understand my faults (most of them anyway) and am open to learning and being challenged on my beliefs. I know that my life would not stand up to the sort of scrutiny of running for public office. I also do not run around preaching something to the masses that would be hypocritical to the examples in my life.

Anyone that puts themself on a pedestal, preaches with such certainty, yet their own personal life and business is so grossly tarnished, opens themself up to ridicule. Especially when they get upset when they are called on it, or made fun of for it.

*sighs*  If you are going to attempt to lecture me on what I've said, then please go back and read the entire conversation between ThatDamnedPanda and myself.  Context matters.

And to clarify, you prefaced two of your posts to me with comments that I was misunderstanding or that I had a misconception.  I ask you again to please not assume that you know what I do or do not understand or perceive.

I can only comment on what you show. Hence my comments about you not understanding.

You know effective communication is only achieved when the message you intended to send out is the same as the message received by your audience. I would therefore suggest that you are not engaging in effective communication as you appear to be saying that the message I (and others) got is not what you intended. Perhaps then it's you who should re-read your posts and think about how they could be better worded to get your actual point across.

Hence the comments she incurred about the pot and the kettle and their name-calling match.
