Hi all,

if anyone has a twitter account you might want to set it to Tehran GMT +3:30 time -- the more data to sift the harder to shut down internet access for the Iranian government.

Thanks,
k

And on a related subject, might I extend my congratulations to all in the US for no longer being the most hated foreigners as far as the Iranian government are concerned.

Oh yes - we're Number 1! We're number 1! We're number 1! (etc)

I'm sorry. I'm from a country that despite its best efforts to try and help around the world, it is still seen as 'the big bully.'

I just can't seem to give a shit about a people who will cry out for my country's help now, and then spit in our face later. Sorry.

Why apologise if you don't give a shit?

Yeah, but why are we No.1, when the rest of the Islamic world hates the US. Could it be because of the past, the Anglo Iraniann oil company and the episode with the Iranian embassy  in 1980, oh, and the Royal Navy patrol boat incident, was it last year.

LadyEllen -> RE: Iran (6/23/2009 5:11:37 PM)

crikey Aneirin, are you complaining? this is the first time we've excelled the US in world affairs since the 1940s!

I expect we're no.1 because of whats going on in the leadership of Iran (wherein the protestors in Iran and elsewhere over these elections are misguided I suspect) with respect to their desire for the rapprochement offered by Obama.

Also, we have an Embassy there, the US doesnt.

To be honest, I am fed up to the back teeth of this continuing  disagreement with those of the Islamic belief. They feel we are not making efforts to understand their POV and as a result they refuse to understand our, or rather our leaders POV. Why can it not be that we accept we have different beliefs and there make efforts to meet each other half way.

LadyEllen -> RE: Iran (6/23/2009 5:32:51 PM)

me too, and I suspect for most. As I see it, our main areas of day to day "disagreement" seem to be which day is best for prayers, how much praying we should do, what time of year to fast and whether its a good idea to eat pork. None of which seem worth so much as raising your voice about let alone killing anyone.

and there is a lot we can learn from Islamic culture - stuff that would benefit us ordinary people as much as ordinary Muslims might benefit from stuff we have to offer.

but it aint us that decide who the "enemy" or "great Satan" is from time to time. its them what pulls the strings and make the money on each side. a lot of the alleged antipathy is actually about keeping the ordinary people apart and at daggers drawn, so the profits can keep rolling and there's no chance of us seeing that actually we're all after pretty much the same things in life just in different ways.
