I always seem to get first contacts that say something along the lines of "tell me more about yourself". And I really don't know what to say.

For christsakes this is easy. A couple of things should just roll out such as:

1. I'm pure Midwestern MANHOOD.
2. Most women orgasm by just shaking hands with me.
3. I am so renown that my last date got promoted at her job by dropping my name.
4. In my spare time, I model for Speedo.
5. The other day, I turned down Angelina Jolie for dinner b/c she talks to much.

ROLL IT OUT BABY!!! Show'em what you got!

I too took a peek at the OP's profile, and have to say it's one of the most thorough type ones that I've ever read here. While a bit lengthy, I found it refreshing to include so much about the sub, and the man.

I think if you're contacting someone, that an introduction would include telling them a little about yourself. I look for an introductory e-mail to include a hint to the man that's responding. (If I were the one make the initial contact, the "tell me about you" line wouldn't be an appropriate first line/e-mail.) If he contacts me, then I want to know the standard info about him, but more, I'd like to begin to see his personality shining through. I want to see that's he intelligent enough to form complete sentences (yes, that's a requirement for me ), and that he has a good, if not wicked sense of humor, while being respectful of me and himself. I feel a confident man is able to talk about himself without being asked twenty questions. If I have to do the question game, on initial contact, then I know we won't get along in person.

I also think the question of "tell me more about yourself" could be used in a way to find out if you're a Do-Me type. If you actually send a long dissertation about yourself in response to their question, without inquiring into them in return, then it's all for naught also.

Perhaps it's one of those 'you can't win' no matter what you do.

Whe you put it that way it almost sounds like you're trying to set the person up for failure. It's like you're not really interested in hearing more about them, you're trying to see if they're interested in you. If they are interested it will show. Why lay a trap for them? If I were on the receiving end of that I'd write the person off as manipulative and dishonest, but that's just me.

I think people also need to recognize the process. How often are we getting asked that exact same question? Whatever intentions a person may or may not have, it gets tiring after awhile answering the same questions:

How sub are you?

Are you a submissive?

What are your limits?

Tell me about you.

All of these and a handful of others are asked CONSTANTLY of available (and not available) people. When you're trying to make a hit online, you've only got a few seconds to grab someone. Don't do it the same way everyone else is.

My response was to the way that I "thought" others might use the question. Notice I said "could be used"...and "I think." Not what I do.

I do ask for an "introduction," but I think that's common courtesy to introduce oneself, when wanting to meet someone. I lay no traps for someone, but I do read into what I receive.

I mean, it's such an open-ended question, and I don't know what interested the person about me in the first place.
I would assume that you're not replying because you're not at all interested in finding out what it is that interested them about you, because just as you thought of the above unknown, you could respond and say "I thought my profile was fairly thorough, would you please ask more specifically what it is you'd like to know", rather than ignoring what might be an awkward person's opening line.

However, there is no substitute for chemistry, and I have to asssume you felt none, and that's the biggest reason you chose to ignore the emails rather than respond.
*/Now everyone's going to think I emailed you with this response, lol>*
If you don't feel anything (chemistry), there is no compelling need to be especially thoughtful or kind to the person who sent you the "tell me about yourself" line. M
