I thought I'd ask here before bugging the support people as we know they are all very busy...

My profile on the other side was recently updated. Now, when I "view profile," I see that the text up above my picture isn't the beginning of the first line of the profile, but some odd text formatting stuff (Normal 0 false false...). I consider myself decently savy, but I can't for the life of me see how to correct that. It simply doesn't show up in the "edit profile" stuff.

I did try to cut and paste (using both ctrl-v and then the edit - paste command) from a word document before cutting it all and re-typing it by hand in an effort to remove the funky code stuff.

Any ideas?

Master Fire

Have you tried removing all of the content completely and saving it as blank? Then paste it back in, and save again. Perhaps it will work as a reset of sorts.

(also, did you click on the normal, etc at the top? it brings up a lot of code. i've seen this code recently on a few profiles on the main search page - so it may not be something you can fix, but a sitewide issue.)

Maybe the biggest issue, Master Fire, is that as long as your profile is in that state, no one can send you email by searching or viewing you.  They can reply to emails you send them, though.

Perhaps that is a good thing.........

I don't know how to fix it.  In fact, I know that sometimes people have had to start over completely, with a new username.  I would suggest removing all text and formatting, all colors etc.  Then put things back in one at a time.  Good luck.

Another thing to try: Delete everything in the window. Save, then check to make sure the codes are gone.

If they are not gone, I don't know what to tell you.

If they are gone, go to your word document and save it as a (1) rtf file and then (2) as a text file. Try pasting the RTF version into your profile first. It will retain some of the formatting but not a lot of weird stuff Word does. If you still get code, delete it and paste the text version. You'll have to format it in the collarme editor, but maybe it will be code free.

I've seen those codes before, they are html and css codes. And they do make it impossible to read the profile. It's possible to save a word document as an html file. Maybe some of the people who get those codes in the profiles are doing that instead of pasting straight text? Or they might just be copying and pasting their profile from another website without realizing they're bringing along part of the markup when they do so. Without all of the markup, you won't get nicely formatted text. You'll get junk code.

Aha! This worked using a txt file. Now why didn't I think of that?

Thanks everyone!

Your profile starts for me with: The short version:, if that is ok, the codes are ok too.

I had the also codes after i changed my profile and did something with colour. If i looked at the profile the codes were there, meaning the formatting was to be seen, others saw the profile i choose to make.

Yes, it was fixed by the time you saw it using a suggestion from above. Yay!
