And the never-ending soap opera continues.

"Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our Sarah."

 Palin story sparks Republican feud

A hard-hitting piece on Sarah Palin in the new Vanity Fair has touched off a blistering exchange of insults among high-profile Republicans over last year’s GOP ticket – tearing open fresh wounds about leaks surrounding Palin and revealing for the first time some of the internal wars that paralyzed the campaign in its final days.

Rival factions close to the McCain campaign have been feuding since last fall over Palin, usually waging the battle in the shadows with anonymous quotes. Now, however, some of the most well-known names in Republican politics are going on-the-record with personal attacks and blame-casting.

William Kristol, the editor of The Weekly Standard and at times an informal adviser to Sen. John McCain, touched off the latest back-and-forth Tuesday morning with a post on his magazine’s blog criticizing the Todd Purdum-authored Palin story and pointing a finger at Steve Schmidt, McCain’s campaign manager.

Kristol cited a passage in Purdum’s piece in which “some top aides” were said to worry about the Alaska governor’s “mental state” and the prospect that the Alaska governor may be suffering from post-partum depression following the birth of her son Trig. “In fact, one aide who raised this possibility in the course of trashing Palin’s mental state to others in the McCain-Palin campaign was Steve Schmidt,” Kristol wrote.

...................The vitriol also suggests the degree to which Palin remains a Rorschach test not simply to Republicans nationally but within a tight circle of elite operatives and commentators, many of whom seem ready to carry their arguments in 2012.

Was Palin a fresh talent whose debut was mishandled by self-serving campaign insiders, or an eccentric “diva” who had no business on the national stage? Going forward, does she offer a conservative and charismatic face for a demoralized and star-less party? Or is she a loose cannon who should be consigned to the tabloids where she can reside in perpetuity with other flash-in-the-pan sensations?

Vanity Fair isn't know to be exactly "conservative friendly".

And you seem to be in love with Palin. You can't stop posting about her.

Vanity Fair?  Hard-hitting?

That'sa no good canoe, Chuckie!!!!

KaineD -> RE: Palin story sparks GOP family feud (7/1/2009 4:54:47 PM)

It's not surprising to me to see that certain individuals are incapable of talking about the context and the individuals and quotes of the story.

mnottertail -> RE: Palin story sparks GOP family feud (7/1/2009 4:59:33 PM)

The context (if you can follow this) was Vanity Fair; Sarah Palin; and the notion that betwixt and between these forces, there was substance.

I imagine you are surprised to breathe autonomically.

Nevertheless, because you don't understand, or agree, with my views on the subject, it doesn't make you in any wise a vioce to be reckoned with.

Thanks for playing.

They were in favor of the Iraq war, which wouldn't make them too liberal.

As an aside...given her experience, why didn't she turn the nomination down?

Here's the backstory to my question - I was a highly skilled integrator and programmer of RF test systems for wireless devices.  I got caught in a mass layoff and spent several months looking for a new job.

About a month after I was laid off, I received a cold call from a recruiter for a headset/handsfree accessory company and was offered a Vice President position in their test department (my previous position was senior engineer). We talked a bit, but I flatly told her that I was not qualified.  And this would've been some serious pay.

Sarah Palin doesn't seem the overly introspective type (just my impression), but I'd think she could look inside and figure it was way too big a step, given the timeline involve.

The NYT was for the war, at first.

Bill Clinton about the author after article ("The Comeback Kid.") about him:
Clinton said (in reference to Purdum): "He's a really dishonest reporter...and I haven't read (the article). There's just five or six blatant lies in there. But he's a real slimy guy." When Fowler reminded Clinton that Purdum is married to his former press secretary, he responded: "That's all right - he's still a scumbag" and later added "He's just a dishonest guy - can't help it." Clinton went on to observe: "It's all politics.

Those on the left seem to be obsessed with Sarah Palin. Why the fuss ? The election is over. You should all be worried about how much your taxes are going to go up in the next couple of years. Remember Obamas campaign promice. 95 % of us will not see our taxes rise..Hang on to your wallet. This is something to worry about, not Sarah Palin..

mnottertail -> RE: Palin story sparks GOP family feud (7/1/2009 7:13:31 PM)

I dunno, I think the 'Obama Show' and what not is running ten to one here and in the press.  But look, she is a, was a, and always will be a dumb fucking cunt........and trainwrecks are worth alotta money if you can get them live.

Perhaps,Servant if Palin was to stop positioning herself for a run in 2012....those on "the left" might cease there "obsession".
The 2008 election is over...as you well know the end of one election is the beginning of the next cycle.Gov. Palin has certainly taken notice of this and is as we speak positioning herself to seek her parties nomination. That makes her fair game here and in any other forum in which politics is discussed. The constant whining from those on the right over the attention she receives is a little silly.

I know, I can't help myself.

If someone would have dreamt this stuff up in a book or movie the critics would have slammed it as too unbelievable to be taken seriously.

And we get to watch it unfold live.

You truly can't buy entertainment like this.

Actually, the article I posted is only tangentially about the Vanity Fair article or I would have posted that.

It's really about the divisions that Palin has created in her own party.

Which, not surprisingly, are no different than the backbiting and fingerpointing after Gore and Kerry screwed up "unlosable" elections.
