Treasury Department,Secret Service,Transportation Department,Federal Trade Commission. Their sites taken down.

Say it is N. Korea. Is this a back off and watch your step message? Say the North decided to fire a few hundred missiles our way and invade the South while simultaneously conducting a widespread cyber attack. It does sound improbable but as the story says the current attack is an " unusually lengthy and sophisticated attack". So what capabilities does it possess?

And if it turns out it isn't the north? It raises some serious issues for me. It isn't in this story but I heard on the radio that it also knocked out a task force that is supposed to be preventing these type of hacks.

The question that concerns me is our dependence on computers and what back-ups exist when something like this happens.

Whether it is North Korea or not, we must start waking up to the fact that it does us no good to dictate policy to the world, when we cannot protect and maintain our own infrastructure.

Technology is seen as a panacea for our powers and good old hard work and everyday missles will take out our senses.

In the first Iraq war there were some cyber things that happened before we launched the invasion or announced it. Another question would be, if it can be confirmed that it is an actual government behind these attacks, are they an act of war?

"The Associated Press reported that the White House, Pentagon and New York Stock Exchange were also targeted, but apparently deflected the electronic barrage. "

And I remember spies (Chinese and Russian) hacking into our electrical grid, a little while back.

Much like the old saying about what would happen when or if a foreign power tried to invade our shores (the gang members and honest, gun-weilding folk being an added defense against the threat), if NK wants to take the fight online....I'm sure....in fact I *know* this country has LOTS of people with the know-how and the desire to take the fight right back to their computer systems.

Hell, I had a Best Buy guy repair my computer years ago, before I knew what I know now. He carried with him a flash drive. I asked what was on it and he replied "That contains about 17 different viruses, any one of which would brick your system in about 2 seconds. You don't even have to open the drive, either. Just insert and remove and the computer is a paper weight."

After my computer was fixed, I asked him "Ever have someone refuse to pay after you fixed their machine?" His only reply was a wink and a "That's what the flash drive is for."

Not much of one. The guys I generally hear making the claim that our hunting rifles would be used to defend our shore are exactly who would shit their pants and scream like little girls after hearing the first report of a tank cannon firing in their direction. Cowards are generally the first to spout macho bravado. The shit talkers are always the biggest punks when you need them to help you throw down.

SB4Y,

Yes, there would be great scads of pants shitters, on the other hand, it would be alot like afghanistan where everyone has guns and don't like being dictated to (although we are losing that).

An invasion on the scale of dropping tanks in here and actually trying to line up fuck-heads with the plan would require a base of operations and supply in either canada or mexico, so we will see that coming many miles off...........

Haven't talked to you since before deer hunting, how'd you do boy?

P.S. mild winter and we are getting alotta twins and trips again (been like that for the last 10 years so, never ending supply)

Ron

Yea putting your eggs in one basket usually leads to one end eventually. By carelessness or accident they break. But hey "welcome to progress". This is a flaw that needs to be guarded against.

I think this is one of those grey areas. This to me should fall under espionage.

No deer this season. The only time I saw a damn deer was when I was in a car, and I'm not that big of a redneck . I did get a few rabbits and a pretty good catch of squirrels during the season for them, but that isn't something to brag about.

I don't recall ever specifying who I was referring to. In fact, the 'saying' I quoted was from a movie, but it still makes a good point. And umm...there aren't any tanks firing at you during a cyber war (unless you're playing Call of Duty that is).
