Hello everyone. I am thinking of marking a slave. I want the marking to be lasting but not permanent. A friend told me henna tatoos last for about 5 years and then fade. Or so she was told but hers has lasted 7 years with no sign of fading.
So can anyone tell me of their experience with henna tattoos and if they have faded or not? Also if anyone knows of some good henna sites let me know please.

Henna "tattoos", otherwhise known as mehndi, are not actual tattoos. I bought a kit once and gave one to a friend of mine. A pasty vegetable dye is applied to the skin, and it's left on for a while and when it's removed, it leaves dark red, orange, or brown stains on skin and finger/toe nails. It wears off in a few days or a couple of weeks.

Although it's certainly possible that someone's come up with a way of using henna dye with a tattoo needle to create tattoos that only last a couple of years, I haven't seen anything on it. Hopefully it's not the so-called "black" henna, which is not pure henna, creates black lines (and I think other colors as well), and has some nasty chemicals in it which can cause serious problems http://www.cbc.ca/consumers/market/files/health/henna/

I am not aware of any technique that would make henna last for that period of time. Would you share with us how this is being done?

When my owner and I went on a cruise I tried a henna tattoo and it lasted all of about two or three days.. I think it was because I was spending so much time in the hot tubs.

The longer you leave the mehndi on without washing it off (as in number of hours), the darker and more striking the tatto will last.

In NO case that I have seen or heard of has a henna tattoo lasted ANYTHING CLOSE to years. They last in terms of weeks.

If you intend to regularly keep your sub marked for a period of years, you may want to invest in one of these henna kits to have it on hand.

If you contact your local Ren Faire enthusiasts, or your local Pagans, they will know what to get and where to find it.

I suppose what you are talking about is "non-permament tattoo". It is what is used in cosmetics salons for permanent eyeliners, lipliners and such. They last for about 4-5 years. The trick is that even trough they are real tattoos, they are not as deep as normal ones - so as the skin renews itself, they fade away slowly.

If you wish for a henna kit, I know you can find one at WalMart and probably a number of crafts stores, such as Michaels and Crafts and Stuff. They aren't hard to find because of their relative popularity. You may also use India Ink I think. Again these will fade in a matter of a few days to a couple weeks, depending on a number of factors, including how fast her old skin flakes off.

As of this moment I have a large henna "tattoo" on my lower back and my palms ..it was done at a moontime celebration for a young girl I know.. Mendhi can last for up to 6 weeks if mixed right and left on for the traditional time (6-8 hours) and in the traditional fashion (misted with lemon juice and sugar to retard drying) I have never heard of henna being used under the skin ...
and I did ask around a fair bit

I've never seen henna last more than 6 months myself. After all, henna is a topical skin dye. Between bathing and knew skin growth, I'm interested in seeing how the dye can stay on for 5-7 years. Something that potent sounds as if it's burning/scaring itself into the skin and causing a pigment change. Any how, I've reviewd and approve these sites.

the good thing about henna is that the items are washable/non permenent. You get to tryout new symbols and drawing to help make any decissions before getting a real tatoo.

hi
i finally got in touch with the person who told me about henna tatooes. this was done to her niece. it was a proper tatoo with a needle. instead of the usual ink (whatever that is) henna was used. she was told it would last 5 years , but it faded after 2 years.
thats all i know.

I love henna and have been doing it for years.. I can't say that I have ever heard of a henna tattoo lasting for years.
If you want a dark stained henna tattoo for your slave that (know from experience) can last up to 2 1/2 months try the mixes on this site, they work wonders and you don't need to cover or lemon/sugar coat them...
http://www.sphosting.com/reverndbunny/siriusmiracle.html
The one I did on me, came out really dark after leaving it on for only an hour and stayed for a little over 3 weeks ( during work hours I am constantly using oils and lotions and washing my hands alot or using hand sanitizer, so it was surprising that it lasted that long).
I hope this helps!

I'm curious, was this tatoo done by a professional tatoo artist or a mehndi artist? I have never heard of henna being used in this manner. I've been into mehndi for about 10 years including searching out and learning the history of it.

BIG difference between tatoo ink and henna. One is meant for permanence IN the skin, and the other is a dye for ON the skin and not permanent at all. Ink will fade, but boy it takes years. Henna on the other hand varies per person based on their skin, how often they bathe, is it in a location where it would get rubbed a lot, how long it was kept on, etc.

Personally I would question someone practicing this and making false claims.

Just my two,

LeatherRose

Hello and good day.

I own a bodyart studio and have been providing henna services for almost 8 years. I have never heard of henna being applied with a tattoo needle and wonder how it would even be possible - have been working close to tattoo artists for around 13 years.
The pigments need to be fine enough to produce a liquid.
Henna powder is not THAT fine and can only produce a paste for topical - and not subcutaneous - application.
I do know that some permanent make up artists will use botanical pigments that will only last 5-7 years.
There is another form of "taattooing" called "ink rubbing" that invloves making a very shallow cut and then rubbing tattoo ink into the wound. This usually only lasts around a couple of years.

There is also another form of marking called ' dry tattooing" that involves using a tattoo machine with no ink.
What it does is leave a faint scar that will heal over a period of a couple of years as well, and is much subtler. Something to think about.
In my experience, henna art will last anwhere from a few days to 4 weeks, depending on which part of the body it was apllied to and how often the art come into contact with water.
Hope this helps.
