Status: offline 		Everybody loves movies, right? Right. Add your reviews of movies as you see them.
 
Saw Bruno today. If you were in the slightest bit offended by Borat, stay far, far away from Bruno

It was pretty funny overall, not as good as Borat, IMO. And only two people got up and walked out.

Basic premise: Bruno (Sasha Baron Cohen) is a gay fashion "expert" from Austria, that ends up in America, desperate to become a celebrity. And, for those not familiar with Cohen's schitck, he plays this role (as he did with Borat) alongside non-actors, people that have no idea what he's really doing, making for some tense, and funny, moments.

Now, not everyone in the movie is unaware of what's going on, and I'd like to know how much of this is really the case. The part where Bruno goes to the military (in an attempt to become straight) seemed too "staged", but mostly, I believe that Cohen is pulling the wool over most of his "co-stars" eyes.

Status: offline 		I saw the Transformer movie last weekend, not cuz I'm really into that franchise, more boredom & it was the only giant-crashy-bangy flick playing . . .. . Special effects were great, plot / dialogue / characters were lame. So. About par for that course . ...

Lebeouf is cute & charming, but I liked his parents better, fabulous, funny character actors who I enjoy in most things that they do. Megan Fox was the latest in a long line of forgettable, blandly pretty fems . . . . . .



The remaining flicks this year that I have any real excitement about seeing (in the theater) are 'District 9', '9', 'Surrogates', 'Where the Wild Things Are', '2012', & 'Sherlock Holmes' . . . . . I'm also kinda curious about 'Inglourious Basterds', if it makes it to a theater 'round here I'll probably go see it, & definitely will check it out on DVD . . . . .

Want to see District 9, too, and Basterds. And hell yeah for Robert Downey Jr as Holmes.
 
Oh, and Shutter Island, looks good.

'2012' is the latest destroying-the-world spectacle from the director who brought us 'Independence Day' & 'The Day After Tomorrow' . ... . I'm a sucker for big cinematic destruction, lol . . . . .

Tho' I'm way more excited about 'Sherlock', that looks most excellent . . . . 'Snatch' & 'Lock, Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels' are two of my faves, & Ritchie bringing that same sensibility to a steam-punk extravaganza looks like loads of fun . .. ..

So we RENT.

Recently released was "PUSH".

If you were Annoyed and Agrivated by all the things that DIDN'T get explained and could not be figured out by Context in the movie "JUMPER" then this is the Movie for you.

I WANTED to like Jumper. But when the credits started rolling and I started asking "What the FUCK was all that about"  and what all these individuals we just met were I just got annoyed and realized that unless I spoke to the guys who wrote the script I would probably NEVER know I just gave up.

PUSH on the other hand gives you VERY Specific Ideas that are easy to comprehend as to what a Stitch is, what a Mover, a Watcher, a Bleeder, a Shadow, and a Sniffer is. To the point that just by saying the names and seeing the individual abilities used you no longer require an explanation.

The Pretense is VERY SIMPLE. Governemnt tests something on someone to make them super and the usual effect is death.... well one lives and being super and having a little help which is explained throughout the movie makes it out with the drug that would prove the testing that has been going on. Other people with Psychic Abilities want the drug to make themselves more powerful and the only person who knows where it is had her own memory wiped so no one really knows where it is.

Dakota Fanning, Oddly enough while remaining cute as she is managed to pull off a pretty adult role but the age jokes are abundant in the film.

So sure there is a lot that isn't fully explained in this movie but you are left not feeling Gyped like you were with Jumper.

I suggest anyone who WANTED to like Jumper or anyone who actually did go get this movie today.

Apropos of no particular movie, Robert Downey, Jr. is brilliant.  I think he has never given a throw-away performance, no matter in what absurd material he's stuck or how deep his personal crap got.  Always as new and strange and vivid as real life.

He's up to play Sherlock Holmes, you say?

Status: offline 		I want so much to go see Transformers, what's the consensus on that movie?  Nay or Yah?

I loved the first one, though I thought it went on a bit long.  From what I've seen of the previews of the new one, the acting sucks, but I'm not going to see it for its oscar worthy qualifications.  I like a feast for the eyes and ears even if it is boom boom bang bang.  It does still need to make a little sense though.  So those that have seen the movie, what say yee?  Should I save my money and wait for it to come out on dvd or get thee to the theater as fast as my scooter will go?

OK, but, in your opinion, is it worth going to the theater to see?  Or better to wait for the dvd?  I rarely go to the theater, so I'm just wondering if I'm going be cursing myself for a wasted afternoon.

Status: offline 		The Transformer flick was an, eh, *shrug* kind of experience. I just like to go to the theater & soak up the extreme A/C, & it was an excuse . . . . Very crashy-bangy, great special effects, but definitely dumb, in my opinion.

& I have a really hard time with the super loud thing anymore, so I carry & use earplugs . . .. .

Status: offline 		I'm a sensory junky to some degree, so the sounds vibrating through the walls gives me a magnificint thrill, the more pulsating the better.  But, the movie has to make some kind of sense.  At least if I watch it at home, I'm able to fast forward through the parts that annoy me.  I need to be able to control how much stupid I have to sit through.   OK, I see I'm being anal about this.

Status: offline 		Nah, I totally understand. Stupid special-effects-spectaculars are about all I'll go to the theater to see, anymore. I'd like it if they were smart spectaculars, but I've learned better, lol . . . . . The few that turn out to have a brain are a pleasant surprise . . ..

I can't watch horror in the theater, I have to be able to get up & walk around to discharge the tension that builds up in me . . . . . & comedies are not helped by the theatrical experience, for me. So both of those classes are straight-to-DVD things for me . . . .
