At the end of the tax year, the IRS office sent an inspector to audit the books of a local hospital.

While the IRS agent was checking the books he turned to the CFO of the hospital and said, "I notice you buy a lot of bandages. What do you do with the end of the roll when there is too little left to be of any use?"

"Good question," noted the CFO. "We save them up and send them back to the bandage company and every now and then they send us a free box of bandages."

"Oh," replied the auditor, somewhat disappointed that his unusual question had a practical answer. But on he went, in his
obnoxious way.

"What about all these plaster purchases? What do you do with what is left over after setting a cast on a patient?"

"Ah, yes," replied the CFO, realizing that the inspector was trying to trap him with an unanswerable question. "We
save it and send it back to the manufacturer, and every now and then they send us a free package of plaster."

"I see," replied the auditor, thinking hard about how he could fluster the know-it-all CFO.

"Well," he went on, "What do you do with all the leftover foreskins from the circumcisions you perform?"

"Here, too, we do not waste," answered the CFO. "What we do is save all the little foreskins and send them to the IRS
Office, and about once a year they send us a complete dick." [sm=banana.gif]

Last time I heard that one there was a Rabbi involved. Please tell me that it has not fallen on the axe of political correctness.

No, the IRS is in both, but in the old version they were auditing a synagoge.(sp)

I thought they were tax exempt though they might be like the Mormons. Mormon churches last I heard did pay taxes, which avoids the rules of maintaining tax free status. For example a tax free church is not supposed to endorse political candidates or issues on the ballot, except in a certain context. There are probably a few more rules they might not like. Also, a taxpaying church or like organisation is actually allowed to make money.

Doesn't really matter, both versions work.

Synagogues are tax exempt like all religious meeting houses. But that gets ignored in the joke in order to get to the punch line.

OK, so they used a bit of "humoric license" so to speak. (did I just coin another phrase ?) I guess that's like poetic license but with the obvious difference.

I think that under the current obamanomic plan no one is tax exempt except his friends and certain cabinet members.

If it was it was before my time, that was sent to me by a friend I've known for years,I can't picture him switching around story lines, and could care less about political correctness if he thinks it's funny.I've not heard the Rabbi one, care to share????Promise I won't tell anyone it's the same joke[8D].

It's simple mydestiny, the joke predates us. It may predate tax exempt status for churches, or like I said there are those that decide not to be tax exempt. Years ago, circumcisions were actually performed at a synagoge (sp).

The original included wax from the candles and so forth, and then just subbing the word Rabbi for CFO made it work. Remember, this joke is decades old. It's just reformed a bit. You can probably find the original on Google, I can't remember the whole thing.

The shame of it is that alot of old jokes have been reformed to be politically correct. I think that instead of not being able to pick on anyone, let everyone pick on everyone. The playing field is just as level.
