I just wanted to comment real quick on the pain (and smell) involved with the cautery pens... heh.

When I used ours, we had pretty much the same results as mentioned in the other posts. Although the resulting "brand" was pretty impressive, at least until it healed, the pain wasn't nearly as much as you would expect. I suppose it had to do with the temperatures involved. However if you plan to experiment, the smell can indeed be rough for some people. Neither of us is squeamish, but the smell of burning flesh certainly isn't all that pleasant, and it was quite a bit stronger than I had expected it to be.

Also, a lot of people now seem to be working with the "dot matrix" style designs lately, and I would think those are a lot less... hmm... "invasive?" than ours was so they might be a good place to start. Ours was actually a fairly large group of lines, that looked pretty severe and had some heavy scabbing when all was said and done. It was nice for a while, but I was really surprised that the scars disappeared as quickly as they did, but she is a redhead, so I guess it isn't uncommon.

i would add henna as an alternative form of marking as well. Henna is traditionally used in celebrations such as marraige which is similar to a binding with a collar. It can be applied anywhere, and will last, depending on the type of skin where it is applied, up to four weeks.

i have recently been giving just this very topic some thought (though i am not owned) and if i had any say in the placement of just such a thing, it would go at the base of my neck - that fleshy part where neck and shoulder meets.

Having said that, i can also say that although i have been in/around this lifestyle since i was 19, i have only worn one collar, and never expected to remove it. The removal of said collar almost killed me. i am grateful that i do not carry the mark of that person permanantly. It would have made it very much harder to stand alone again, as i would be reminded daily, as if i already didn't know.

I think branding you with a BLACK EYE WILL GO EXCELLENT.

My slave got "slave" tattoed between her breasts. She also got a tattoo of a Templar Knight's sword piecring and chained to a lotus flower on the small of her back
