lostyoungling -> Bruising question... (7/19/2009 9:51:03 AM)

I had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung) about 8 months ago. I'm no longer on the blood thinners. I like bruising and have extensive bruising currently. I was wondering if anyone knew if that could cause another problem? I'm definitely ignorant so excuse me if I'm totally off base. Also, I know this is just a forum and I am going to ask my doctor at the next oppurtunity

If you haven't already had it done, have your clotting factor checked.

There can be a protien that can cause your blood to clot too fast, and this can cause big problems.

The sensation of your "leg going to sleep" can actually allow a clot to form.

What did the Doctors that treated you recommend about your condition and future care?

They didn't recommend anything other than not being on estrogen birth control. That's what they think caused it in the first place. Other than that no one's mentioned anything I should do special. Thank you so much for replying to my post btw :)

Since you have a history of this, you need to ask the doctor if it is safe for you to be bruised heavily.
Okay what helps a bruise develop: aspirin(blood thinner), hot baths immediately afterwards.
Don't put ice on it, don't use arnica.

But please get approval first.
