The necromanced thread on cold sores made me want to share something. I have herpes and get outbreaks on my lips 5-6 times a year. I take lysine and that works, but you have to do that all the time, and it like valtrex is expensive. One day I was in the health food store, and I saw "Cold sores begone" A little purple bottle with a badly drawn green wizard on it. I thought 5 bucks, it cant hurt, but I really bought it thinking that there was no way it would help. I have used a lot of creams and what have you from the pharmacy and none of them work so I never thought this would. But it has! I have used it 3 times, just as that first tiny tingle comes up, and I don't get cold sores. I thought I would share because statistically over 50 percent of those that are reading this suffer with HSV And also because I wanted to ask if any one else has tried this product? Or know why it works? (maybe Pompeii)

I use aftershave on mine, that always works.

my mama uses abreva and swears by it, daughter uses carmex. kitten

I to have been a long time suferer ,valtrex is expensive! but if at all possible its the way to go, "Cold sores begone"sounds good,,, fantastic news to us sufferers , I use valtrex on a daily basis 500mg. and have not had an outbreak for a long time only if i dont take it ,,,,, thanks for this info.

walmart has acyclovir, the first generation HSV antiviral, on their $4/month plan---just ask your dr to write you a script!!

i use carmex and i get alot of cold sores due to sun exposures, someone drinking from my glass by mistake or a certain brand of lipstick. No need to tell you that i keep a tube of Carmex in my purse. I wish you luck :)

So... Perhaps I don't know too much about herpes but it seems like a very common incurable disease but.... Are there any other side effects other than a little cold sore? I mean, that doesn't seem to be a big deal, unless it is coupled with other complications. My sister has a friend who has it and she won't even go near her, in fear of contracting it! But it doesn't sound like its deadly. Maybe annoying?
