i'm having an endometrial biopsy this morning.  we know i have fibroids, i had a "fairly normal" pap smear, but then there were endometrial cells found in the pap smear also.

therefore the biopsy, to make sure everything is all right in there.  *headdesk*

i'm perimenopausal.  i havent had an actual menses since febuary.  i had a 3 week "trickle" that i handled with pantyliners, mind you!  that was a month or more ago.

i'm of the opinion that if the thing isnt working (uterus), isnt GOING to be called into action, its causing difficulties, take it out.

kitten, still dragging her feet on getting ready to go

I had the same thought and told my doctor to give me a list of symptoms that would qualify for the removal, with the ovaries saying, of course. Well, no such luck but I did have an uterine oblation after over a year of horrible pain and the result was wonderful. Woke up from surgery (just a day procedure - in and out) and the pain was gone and has not come back for 2 years now. I have an odd shape uterus and they were not able to get all the lining out so I still have periods - a side effect most do not have. You may want to consider talking this over with your doctor if chronic pain is a concern. It was a wonderful solution for me.

chronic pain *is* an issue for me...however its kinda difficult to pinpoint *where* its coming from.

is it the fibromyalgia?
the pancreas which gets inflamed at times? (and doesnt work right, hence the diabetes)
the "inflamed gut" which is finally responding to the meds the gastro doc scripted me?

i tell ya, you hit mid 40's and the warantee expires.  (i'll be 46 saturday.  heh.)

thanks!

finally some GOOD news.  the biopsy came back absolutely negative, nothing wrong in that area.  so i can forgo worrying about it for another year till the next scheduled exam comes due.

more good news, i lost a couple pounds!  yay!

but at today's dr appointment, my blood sugar was skyrocketed so i'm now on insulin.

kitten, just not happy at all with this....

Sorry to hear you are going through a tough time. I'm am also one of those who says if I have no use for it, get rid of it, but for some reason most doctors don't like that idea. Personally, I think it is an insurance issue (ins. not wanting to pay), but really....if a woman knows she doesn't want anymore kids, she has issues with periods, fibroids, endometriosis, etc. what is the big deal really? I swear if men had a uterus they would be removing them all the time!

Ok, I kind of went off track there for a bit. If you talk to your doctor about it enough, you may be able to convince doctor to do the hysterectomy. As for the ablation, it is actually a 50/50 shot that it will stop your periods. It is also a crap shoot whether it will help at all, odds don't realistically get beyond 70%, and a high number of women who have them end up having a hysterectomy after it anyway. MistressEllen444, I'm glad you were in the group with the positive results.

pixidustpet, sounds like you are on the right track with your doctors, getting them to take all the right steps. Wanna talk to my docs, lol? They all seem to have their heads up their asses.

heh. i'm sorry your docs arent listening to you.  a fast reminder that YOU are the customer and they work for YOU might help, you know?  (we fired one doctor this year.  i wouldnt hesitate to fire another.)

what she did was just a biopsy, take a little sample of the lining of the uterus to see if it was ok or not.  two thumbs up on that one (and having the call come in the day before my b-day was also excellent!) so they arent going to do anything else.

i'm already in perimenopause so i'm not concerned about periods much any longer, nor is any sort of baby oops on the agenda (neither one of us is fertile any longer).  so let life continue....and hope some of it gets better.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I can sort of identify. I had cyst issues a year and a half ago. They did a biopsy and everything turned out alright. I hope it turns out alright for you as well :)

cyst issues are a way of life for me.  we've been dealing with those for at least 10 years now.

the biopsy was negative so that's one thing less to worry about, thank you.

kitten,

Actually I fired two in the last month or so! Yea, I don't have a problem with that, just my current doctor not seeming to like me pushing for more tests because the diagnosis' I'm being given I have heard before and they don't "jive" with the symptoms or the treatment. Just gets a bit frustrating sometimes.

Because of my anxiety attacks, last year they did a D&C instead of the endobioposy. It had been attempted in the past and my anxiety shot up so high there was no way they were getting in there while I was awake, lol. I consider that a good thing though.

Personally, they have told me I'm perimenapausal for several years (I just turned 45). The thing that sucks the most is just when you are really enjoying not having a period, it decides to show up and surprise you. I think for most of us past those childbearing years and yearnings, we couldn't care less if periods stopped permanently.

I had a right ovary removed because of the concern of the cyst gradually growing and to determine whether I had cancer or not. The results came back and it was endometriosis. I have no pain or cramping and this is the best thing that has happened to me because I was on the pill for quite some time. I hated the water weight gain side effect from this medication. I am 50 years old so will be facing menopause in the near future but hey, no more feminine napkins!
