I wonder if Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton even have a big following. It seems like they are just media darlings.

Interesting can o worms I've opened.... and as for marsbonfire... Im hardly an archie bunker.  Was just opening a subject that most folks are scared shitless of.  I was just trying to open a dialogue that maybe those that SAY they are trying to help the situation are only working to enrich themselves and their cronies at the expense of those that they are allegedly helping.

Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have been doing a disservice to other Blacks for years. The real message should be to stay in school and study. Claiming the whites are holding them back is for sure the wrong message. Listen to Bill Cosbys message instead.

And in all fairness, Obama's as well. Of course staying in school to Obama may mean studying Ayers approved textbooks.

President Obama is the best example ever as to why poverty pimps like Jackson and Sharpton are no longer needed. They are both millionares who never worked a day in their life.

Ive listened to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton bang their yaps together for the umpteenth time about "Racism is alive and well".   I'm thinking, "yes it is.  and those responsible for keeping it alive and well are the ones who benefit most."

I'm going to toss a really tough question out here and let's be serious and mature thinking about it.

Are Jesse and Al and their ilk the ones deliberately keeping racism "alive and well"?   Let's face it.  In a totally race-neutral country (wouldnt that be a utopia), there would be no affirmative action.  There would be no hate crimes.  There would be no political action committees dedicated to "equality".  Most of all, folks like Jesse and Al would have to get a real job and get off the TV.

I know this is going to produce a bunch of "haters".  To them, I say  "Grow up and come out of your politically correct shell".  Use your own brain and think for youself.  this country seems to have a serious lack of that lately

Regardless of Jesse and Al, to say that they are the ones keeping it alive is ludicrous.  Affirmative action is used as a tool to help those who grew up at a disadvantage; those who went to poor schools or had a background where learning wasn't the focus.  While I would prefer to see affirmative action be based on some sort of class system rather than a racial one, a lot of this is just ignorant hate from people whose opinions of minorities come from rap videos or movies.

nelly, that  (rebooting AA into something class based) is a wonderful idea, and I have to agree with your comment 100%

HillWilliam, the "Archie Bunker" comment wasn't directed at you, but thanks for the clarification of your motives. As you and others have said, this is a helluva high voltage can-o-worms.

All I can say is, Jackson and Sharpton have first ammendment rights to speak freely in this country. The only ethical form of censorship you guys have at your disposal... is your right not to listen.
