You know I have this friend, he is a worrywart. I joke that he wants to be my Mother. I swear, the other day we had breakfast together an he reminded me to take cigarettes to work ! That's pretty bad.
What is it with all these update nags all the time ? The PC is working and I'll be dammned if I am going to fix something that is working. McAffes wants it every hour or something, telling me that I must register to retain my privacy. That has to be the oxymoron of the year. Why doesn't it get the fucking idea, I don't need your stupid ass program, if I need an antivirus I will get AVG. It has updates, but it doesn't really need them because it uses heuristic reasoning and can detect a virus before it is on any list. Why the fuck would I pay you for something that I can replace with better for free ?
And then there's Windows. Motherfucker this disk costs like $500, I better not need a goddamn thing, but I still do need to get SP2 and so forth. Actually that I can live with. But all this bugging me about firewalls and shit. Even on MY PC which is not currently on the net, it warns of risk and shit. Come the fuck on, I haven't even stuck a CD in that thing for some time, OK, my new printer drivers but that's about it other than an audio CD. Where the fuck am I at risk here ?
Now I got these laptops, all with Vista. I took one to work and am learning how to tame Vista. Right now I never reboot, which is working well. I let it sleep, and it brings back my same screen in a day, or a week. Realize that some of these manuals I use are over a thousand pages, once I find what I need I don't want to lose it. As tamed as I can seem to get it I still get a balloon. It says updates ARE being installed. Well stupid sonofabitch, if you ain't even going to ask me first, why bother me with it at all ? You got two gig of RAM, fucking use it and leave me alone. Fucking laptop anyway, I hate those touch screens, I want a regular mouse. X me out of this bullshit.
Yeah, and I think there should be a law that laptops have to have a serial and PS/2 port. Shortly after the laptops arrived my sinister went to get mouses,,,,l, errrr meese, mice ? English teacher please ? She didn't know they had to be USB and found some optical mice at like a dollar each. Useless as a fucking cardboard bulletproof vest. I wonder if those adapters would work or if the mouse has to be made for it. Fukit, she took them back.
One thing I learned in life, if it doesn't say it's got it, it usually doesn't. It didn't say it had a PS/2 port, and for damsure it doesn't. It does say it has a webcam, but it doesn't say it has microphone. I haven't tried those out yet, but I think I might as well figure on having to get a microphone. In a perfect world one could assume it has one built it, but you know what they say about the word assume.
I do know my way around, turn off auto updates, remove all this crap like Norton's and whatever. But then when you do all that the motherfucker pops up and nags you to turn the updates back on. WTF, and it even does it if it's not connected to the internet. Now the fuck what ? Is there somewhere I can turn off the nag telling me to turn the nags back on ?
How much is a new Mac ?
