Cage/Restraint Questions - 8/7/2009 10:03:58 PM

I've heard about submissive pets being kept in cages or restraints for short periods of time, that's part of play obviously, but I have also heard of some being kept locked up for hours to days at a time.  I am wondering what effects this would have on the human body, and if there is any sort of escape mechanism for the subs involved in case something unexpected happens.  Fires, break-ins, that kind of thing.

Firstly....

Cramps suck. After prolonged periods of time moving from the position you were in is painful.

Secondly...

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER leave a subbie pet unattended. I am no good to anyone dead... and very irresponsible on the Dominants behalf.

Third...

Make sure all restraints/cages can be taken off in under thirty seconds. A good rule for that break-in.... if it is a burglar or unexpected inlaws.... or fire.

Fourth...

leave a spare emergency only key in the cage. @_@

Nothing like hearing.... "Ooops. I just lost the key in the sink."

One can go stir crazy in a cage, depending on how small or big the cage is relative to the body. Cushions are welcome in my cage.... especially thick ones if left over night.
Give me enough room to curl up in and I can sleep.

People who are kept restrained for hours on end are not usually in one position in a cage that does not allow movement. A closet with bars possibly. Or a long chain so they can go to the bathroom, do stuff around the house.

Beyond that, you can have a door that can be opened but sets off an alarm if it is. A key in an icecube that will melt in an hour, or two minutes under water. All kinds of failsafe's exist including the really low tech one of sticking the key in an envelope. They have to tear the envelope to get it out and that's visible upon checking.

My sub frequently sleeps with her collar chained to the bed and I keep a key within my easy reach. There isn't too much of an effect from this. She gets a little bit caught in the buckle and eventually the leather will need to be cleaned. Probably the biggest thing is that it's preferable for the chain to be long enough to reach the bathroom, having to get up and give your sub a bathroom break at 3AM gets really old. Oh and the chain being long enough isn't a guarantee that you'll be undisturbed, a heavy chain being dragged across the floor isn't very quiet.

I'd suggest getting a cloth cover for the chain then. Cloth tube, whatever. Make sure it is thick cloth.

I personally dislike the idea of being restrained during long periods of time that don't involve play.
As the one restrained, I have lots of 'battle damage' to various joints and it would puzzle me why someone would desire to cause me pain in a displeasurable fashion and potentially worsen joints that have been previously damaged.
As the one doing the restraining, I rather value anyone I would have in that position and would not desire to leave them unattended for any time at all (Maybe a bathroom break, maybe).
Imo, if there isn't the potential for substantial movement and getting one's self free quite easily (And knowing that one has a cool enough head to do so in an emergency), I don't have much use for such things.

hello, my master has told me he plans to make me a cage and he brought up that he had talked to an old sub of his and that she had been muzzled and caged for 8 months, i dont look at this as acceptable,. i told him that i do not want to be caged but it seems the more i fight the idea the more interested he is and the more he pushs it.... maybe if i begged to be put in one he wouldnt want to put me in one unless it was a reward for being a good slave, LOL

Or just tell her to move ver-r-r-r-ry slowly. That's what I used to have to do.

I concur with this. Of course previous to play there would be detailed limits. Everyone has different levels of endurance and to be subject to something that is unhealthy is not very responsible.

The most arousing thing to me is not the fact that I am restrained but how long I can last while in the restraints before calling a safe word.

It depends on restraints. For example, bigger size cages and medieval type shackles are designed for long term relatively comfortable wear (prisoners were shackled for years). They do not require somebody to stand next to you with a key. I have have some personal experience. I would not like it with a "safety nazi". My pleasure is of being under control (not just trying on restraints that you can remove as you wish).
