I think the main problem now compared to a simpler, earlier time is that a politician USED to be someone who had hade it in whatever business, retired early and gone into "public service" to have something to do. They had previously held a "Real Job". Presently, someone will go to college and major in Politics and Public Affairs (or whatever it is at the particular university). From there, they hook up as staff for some congressman. Then, after a few years, if they are tall, good looking and photograph well, and MOST IMPORTANTLY will do as they are told. The party will run them for the state house and on and on. The problem here is you end up with congressmen, senators and presidents who have gone their whole life and NEVER held a "Real Job" and it shows. They are more concened with advancing their career. ie getting reelected than they are with doing what they need to do for their constituents. Unfortunately, We, the constituents would rather listen to talk radio and do what WE are told than actually use our brain and make up our own minds about the issues.
