Brain -> RE: Pelosi calls SEIU Actions "Un-American" (8/11/2009 1:59:24 AM)

I'M NOT SO SURE ABOUT THAT. After they suspended the Bill of Rights and the patriot act and wiretapping people domestically, the FBI going into people's homes and searching and making it look like a burgler and not having to disclose what they did, not to mention waterboarding and what happened at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo. I will have to think about it some more before I give him a pass on it, I had some stuff on it before that I read but it's on my other computer. Maybe if Colin Powell says he's not a fascist I will believe it.

And another thing, why are other countries talking about war crimes. I'd like to see Donald Rumsfeld make another trip to France and see how it goes. The crap those bastards got away with, ridiculous. Nobody has the balls to do anything about it.

Arpig -> RE: Pelosi calls SEIU Actions "Un-American" (8/11/2009 2:22:06 AM)

All of that is authoritarian,or even totalitarian in nature, but it is not fascist. Fascism is a distinct political & economic philosophy. It is in fact opposed to unrestrained capitalism and advocates the establishment of strict government control over both business and labour. It is anti-liberal and anti-conservative at the same time. Fascism advocates the creation of a single party state. According to Mussolini (the founder of Fascism) it aimed to bureaucratize the economy. Various political scientists have placed Fascism on the extreme right, whileothers have placed it on the extreme left. It is both and neither. It is neither capitalist or communist,it is corporatist.
As you can see, GWB was most definitely not a fascist.

Back to the original topic ...

Here is more about how much "substantive debate" and how "civilized townhalls" should be run ...

Health Care for America Now website:

Extracts:

How should we interact/what do we say to the other side?

1. Do not debate on their “policy” points. ...

2. Interrupt them when they get disruptive and refocus the meeting: Line up a number of people who feel comfortable interrupting and prepare them with statements ...

5. We should demonstrate that we are the majority by chanting

Other gems:

Choose a venue that is difficult for the opposition to access without being noticed.

Collect signs and leaflets that are not provided by you or your organization.

This "guidance" page is rich with points of discussion, hypocrisy, and sheer lunacy.

That's easy g4m. Its been stated several times on the various health care threads. the root of the problem is that the US health care delivery system is profit driven. Remove the profit motive from the system and you solve the problem.

And you remove any incentive of developing new and better cures...But don't let that stop you.

and you believe paying a CEO billions in bonuses is a way of ensuring research gets money

What else gets removed when we do that?

Louve00 -> RE: Pelosi calls SEIU Actions "Un-American" (8/11/2009 7:31:29 AM)

I can only imagine removing the profit motive removes the alternative methods a Dr will have to treat so insurance will cover it.  To me, that would be a plus for a sick person, not the insurance company.

FACT SHEET

In the U.S., the process of drug development involves several stages. It typically begins
with basic research, which is often conducted at universities or research institutes.

Basic research is largely funded by taxpayer dollars through government agencies such as the
National Institutes of Health (NIH), and it is the knowledge base from which future
products are derived. Basic research findings are then purchased by or licensed to pharmaceutical
and biotechnology companies.

The Obama administration must approve of what the previous administration has done. They have done nothing to reverse anything.

That's not true, that is a fallacy. Read the book The Truth about the Drug Companies

http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=the+Truth+about+the+drug+companies+&meta=&rlz=1R2GGLL_enCA333&aq=o&oq=

Drug companies spend all their money on advertising, or most of it anyway. The government does the research and gives results for free to the drug corporations. And of course I don't think that's fair to taxpayers.

You also remove any need to satisfy or even respect the customer.

Right after I'm finished with this book RealOne was pushing that claims that man has never walked on the moon...  [8|]

You can find a book that claims anything you need a book to claim, in order to push any agenda there is - no matter how crazy. Regarding the disinformative book you're pushing here, read the reviews.

The one star reviews are predominantly from people who work in the field while the three, four and five star reviews seem to be from average people who have no knowledge of the field.

No idea what you are talking about.

Maybe you could try to expand your usual one or two line posts to actually explain.

Which is the problem neatly summarized right there.

These are people with illnesses, not customers.

Deciding whether you want HBO with your cable package is not equivalent to deciding on chemotherapy.

Are you kidding me?

Desperation is truly setting in.

You're trying to discredit the book based on anonymous reviews on a message board?

[sm=rofl.gif]

We're discussing a book that was recommended over the Internet by some anonymous character who calls himself "Brain" to begin with...

And what criteria do you propose, if not the reviews of those who have read it.

?
