So, I was gifted with an old mink coat that's both falling apart & too small for
me. I'm recycling it, & took it with the intention of turning the sleeves into
floggers . . . . . .

Any thoughts about doing this?

The fur is in strips, roughly 2 inches wide & at least 12 or 14 inches long,
most of it still sewn together . . . . . My thoughts involved unstitching the
pelts & then .. . . ?

& any thoughts on the care of fur floggers?

We do beaver floggers.  The best hint I can give you is to work on the hide outside.  Hair flying around the house is a bitch and it seems as if you are still cleaning it up weeks later. 

We keep the floggers in long tube socks that have had the toes cut out and then the raw edge finished with a sewing machine.  That keeps them clean. 

You could also make a nice hand mitten from your mink coat.

We started a small business named  "asensualtouch" and we specialise in recycled fur floggers and mittens and fur covered oak paddles.

Depending on the condition of the mink you may have to line it first..
That was our biggest challenge finding a bonding agent that stayed flexable but bonded to a light leather or fabric backing.
One option is to make tubes out of the mink and use them as flogger falls.

To sew fur well you need a fur sewing machine. So do not disassemble it anymore then you have to.
Some of our floggers have rope cores to provide some weight  as a fur flogger is often too light. Also be aware that once you have your tails ready you need to bond them to a handle in such a way there is not a weak point.

Again the biggest issue is how old and how well kept the fur is that you have.

Might be easier to make a mitten... or a  paddle.
We are in the middle of a major life move so have not worked on any for nearly a year, making a fur flogger tho takes us 8-10 hours.
