We just got back from a late lunch where we had the excellent company of ThatDamnedPanda. Let Me tell you, this was a lot of fun. It was something that had been talked about during Panda's trip to CA and it became a reality today. There was even an extra stroke of luck that Mister P got to come along as well!

I had a great time. There was a chance to talk about all kinds of things about different subjects under the sun. It was one of those opportunities where "lunch" probably wouldn't have covered it. Even when lunch was over, we still stayed talking outside and I *still* was chatting a mile a minute. LOL.

Thank you, Panda, for coming out our way to say hello. We had a great time and we hope it won't be the last!

It will not be the last, I can guarantee that. I just wish i had more time on this trip, but honestly, I don't think it will be much longer before we have unlimited opportunities.

I'm closer today than I've ever been to moving out here. The day after we had lunch, I had breakfast with Vendaval and drove up into the Sierra Madres for a day of hiking, and I was so swept away by the beauty of the place that I stopped at several places to check out real estate. Then I drove over the Sierra Madres to the Carrizo Plains, between the Caliente Range and the Temblor Range, and looked at some lots in the foothills of the Temblors. I don't know if I've ever seen anything so beautiful in my life... I'm just not sure i want to build a house directly on top of a part of the San Andreas that averages one 8.0 every 100 years, and hasn't had a quake in 150 years. Especially in the foothills of a mountain range that's named after the Spanish word for "earthquake." I mean, the fault would literally run right through my backyard, but what the hell. Everything in life is a gamble. And besides, the fault looks kind of cool. It has a rather macabre aesthetic appeal.

We might be sorta neighbors pretty soon after all. Meanwhile, it was a pure pleasure meeting you guys, and an unexpected treat to meet you both. You're both such nice people, so easy to be around, i could have stayed and talked until they called the police to come and throw us out. I hated to say goodbye. If nothing else, I'll catch you next month at that little thing in San Francisco, whatever it's called, and we can take Venatrix out and get her tanked in that limo. Thanks for a wonderful lunch, and I'll talk with you soon!

Panda... if you do move out there, dont move into a canyon with only one road in or out...

Good point. But it's easier to defend against outlaws, isn't it? I saw that in a movie once. Or isn't that as much of a problem as it used to be?

Seriously, I don't think I can afford canyons. I'll probably be living in some place more wide open. The areas i was looking at yesterday were exactly my cup of tea. In all honesty, I'd probably move down to the LA area for a year of two while I get established, because there's a lot more economic opportunity there, and use that time to save some more money and explore the state more thoroughly. There's so much of it I haven't seen yet, and I wouldn't want to rush into a decision on which part of it to infest without doing some more research. It seems like every time I find something that's more beautiful than anything I've ever seen before, the next mountain range I drive over blows me away even more. Fucking incredible out here, just fucking incredible. Nobody ever told me it was like this, or if they did I didn't believe them.

Panda.. I dont know what the housing market is out there anymore, but if you're looking at the LA area, check west Altadena..or anywhere in the San Gabriel valley (avoid Monterey park if you dont speak Vietnamese).
