This came to me while I was riding the bus home today...hope you like it.

The Black & Tan Song

I awoke to hear you crying
and asking how we went so far
from where we once were
to get to where we are
Now I got nothing left in life to lose
and nothing left to gain
so pass the whiskey bottle boys
to take the edge off the pain

If you can't give me what I need
then give me what you can
If you can't give me the time of day
then pour me a black and tan
I never loved nobody
half as much as I loved you
coal-black hair and ice-blue eyes
what else could I do

Now I ain't got much money
but I can always spare a loon
for the one-armed man with the slide guitar
who's playin Shadows on the Moon
He's playin for the old men dying
out on the winter streets
Singing songs of their victories
and songs their numberless defeats

If you can't give me what I need
then give me what you can
If you can't give me the time of day
then pour me one more black and tan
I never loved nobody
half as much as I loved you
I never lied or cheated girl
what else could I do

Now they say its never easy
for a man to find what he seeks
and I ain't been close to sober
for a half a dozen weeks
But I'll pull myself together
I'll get on my feet again
I just need a little time to heal
and a little more cocaine

If you can't give me what I need
then give me what you can
If you can't give me the time of day
then pour me one last black and tan
I never loved nobody
half as much as I loved you
but in the end all things must pass
so what else could I do

I awoke to find I'm dying
slowly in this bar
wondering how we went from where we once were
to get to where we are

This one could be put to music with very little effort.  You should send this off to some of the Country western Stars.  They are always looking for something like this.

copy write it first

Actually in Canada it is copyrighted as soon as it is written...my posting it on here establishes a date by which I can claim ownership
