Happy birthday to me, yes it is my b'day. Well we have discussed this among the family, and the olman died. We continue to pay insurance on his vehicles because as we read it, if we want to drive them, that is the thing to do. Got this not that old but quite delapideted pickup truck, my sisnister wants to keep it. Being homeowners having a pickup truck is an advantage but we haven't used it in a while. Along comes my favorite psychopath, he has a job but no way to get there. He is talking a few days and he would grease us with a bit of cash at the end. He has a license, but a few unpaid fines. So OK, how is he ever going to make the money to pay the fines without working ? He has a few day gig for like $600 painting a whole house, needs wheels. I know this guy's license is good, but those unpaid fines. At least we are in the clear about that and all of the legal heirs agree, let him. Give a hand, not a handout, he did not ask for a handout. Well I live in the city and this truck is not only a bit worn out, I mean it was worn out a while back, but with occasional use would last us for years and is the only thing we got that will carry 4X8+ sheets of whatever. As we tend not to ask favors, it is a good thing to have. So with all the admonishments about being careful and all that, he drives away at about eight in the morning. Well the phone rings. Now this is the strange part to me, he owes some fines, but he got rousted in Cleveland proper, a nice central location, and they did not take him. He was upfront with the cop and he ws let go. But now because they stop him in a ritsy neighborhood they all want him and he is cycling around the jails and going to court to buy more time. It's all he can do rather than rob a bank. But now he has a job, not a full time job or anything, but the chance to make good money in the next few days. Of course I told him to not lolly gag around in the suburbs because of the cracked windshield and the loud exhaust, get your smokes, iced tea, whatever in town here where they won't bother you. When you get out there just get to the gig, do it and get back on the highway ASAP. Well, maybe since he was in a more affluent area, apparently they decided they did want him, but they did not tow the truck right away, and they did not even issue him a ticket for the windshield, and through channels I find that he did not lie and he did not violate my trust in any way, they just happened to be there, saw the windshield and stopped him. Even though this truck is a real rag, it serves well. It has a Grandma gear that would pull an apartment building down the street, WITH A V6 ! It doubles as a stump puller. Well we did not get there in time. I had to call around, since it was the olman's and he is dead, we fugred we may have lost it. Upon further investigation I found that with proof of death an heir can collect the vehicle from impound. I quipped "We could bring his ashes out there if you want", but seriously, with the death certificate and the next of kin named, it can be done, at least there, I was not so sure. I thought we had lost the truck, but we got it back, the same day in fact. (at twenty bucks a day wouldn't you ?) Really this truck is a piece of shit, but it runs so well and you can put anything in it. This is not like having a 2008 Ford supertruck Rangerspedition anything. I don't even know how to work the heater in it. But it gets the job done. Our other choices are a 1995 Jimmy, a 2002 or so Mits SUV and about a 2006 Chevy little car. Now when I am at the local DIY store, guess which one comes in the most handy ? Before he took it we established the value as $500 (I told you it is a rag), but I guess the b'day present to me was not to lose it. He is good for the $150 towing and crap, but then we still have the truck. I prefer that than getting the $500 and not having the truck. The way I see it he also owes about a tank of gas for running out there TWICE. I plan to get this money. I am not even worried aboout the day off work it cost me, all this gave me a chance to catch up with a buddy of mine as we waited for certain things to happen, for example my sinister has all the car titles because they need to go to the lawyer's office eventually. She was at work. OK, I had a really good excuse to take off work, but not one I wanted. So that's how I got my b'day off work in 2009. Tomorrow it is nose to the grindstone. I have been off Mondays for a long time, but last week I went in, and high winds or something came up and ripped all the electric wires off the building. This week I also worked Monday and now this happened and I missed Tuesday. Is this some sort of omen or something ? LOL Actually yesterday I did start a complex and expensive job, and it sat there today. Watch, I'll get it done in record tme. Damn though, I was hoping for a full banner week. What could happen next Monday ? I mean I am getting scared of Mondays here, perhaps I need some therapy, or some nookie, I dunno. But it is awful strange, and that leads me to the question of is it me ? But back to favors, please don't ask for a vehicle. I don't care how many we have, it is just too much potential for a pain in the ass. And it was today. Sometimes you are damnned for getting a favor and sometimes for giving a favor. Maybe the need for favors to be quantified and called trade, we needed to invent money. So now eveybody needs a little black book with their name on it ? Hey, that doesn't sound too bad, and really might be better than our opresent money system (note I let that typo stand for a reason) T
