Yes Greedy, but in Germany they have a rather good process when it comes to support and options and such. In Germany if you want an abortion it has to be done in the first 12 weeks, you have to go to the doctor who will do the abortion and speak with them about how it is done and the complications etc, you then need to go to special councillors who talk to you about all your options (not just abortion), they will then have you sign papers and such saying you have been to the talk/s. After the councillor you have to wait a period of atleast a week (I am not sure if it has changed in the last few years) before you can return to the doctor to have it carried out, this time is for reflecting and reconsidering your options. There are a few exceptions to this law, such as a child that will have a serious disability, the life of the mother or other fetuses (by multiple births) are in danger and with rape (here I am not sure if it is still done after the 12 weeks but I think it is done with extra steps then it normally would be). That is a good example of being responsible (on the side of the government) and atleast a means of preventing to many using abortion as a birth control method.

fast reply~ were all forgetting the role that sex ed plays in this. You might be responsible to 100% of your full potential, as far as you know. There are so many people out there who know nothing about protection. Where abstinence is preached instead of safe sex, the pregnancy rate is no surprise. This background going hand and hand with the fear of raising bastard children, its no surprise they opt to abort. My pregnancy resulted from not knowing all the facts, and I WAS on BC.... try to imagine. We dont need off the wall tube mutilation, we need more awareness and openness and communication so that kids can learn about safe sex. As far as they know, maybe just pulling out IS birth control.

And I would opine that choosing to terminate a pregnancy is exercising personal responsibility too.

Sometimes both abstanance and birth control need to be taught. Like mixielicious I was on BC and he used a condom when i got prego w/ my daughter.

Men do need to step up and take responsibility for their choices, but as women we cant have it both ways. We cant cry about how its our bodies then expect someone else to be responsible for making sure WE dont get pregnant. Edited to add: I missed the post that stated only permiscious women got pregnant. I know I was married when I got pregnant, but that by no means means it as a planned pregnancy.

I don't understand though how if its our choice what we do with our bodies that abortion cant be used as birth control, also I find that statement rather complicated, when does it become birth control? Nika, i disagree with what you are saying, you are saying that while we should say its our bodies to GET the abortions, we shouldn't say its our bodies when as some are indicating that they change our bodies due to ridding our bodies of something TWO people implemented? A MAN can say no as well as any woman. You can't try and regulate a woman's body just because she chooses to do something with it too many times that is comfortable for others. You seem to want it both ways in the opposite -- that they can have the abortion BUT by making such a choice for themselves, their body, and the fetus with, they have to then allow someone else to make a choice for them and their bodies. I don't think anyone is saying men have to be just as responsible for making sure pregnancy doesn't occur -- THOUGH THEY SHOULD -- i think people are saying if you are going to start using abortion as a count down to whether or not you (BEING ONLY THE VESSELL CARRYING) are responsible enough to conceive (i.e., this isn't about bearing children as abortions pretty much indicate you won't bear the possible child, this is about conceiving) children -- and then forcing a change in HER BODY -- then damn straight the Men should be just as responsible and held to responsibility for HIS Decisions in the whole conceivement process. And if you want to start deciding who should and should not conceive children based upon being RESPONSIBILE, i sure can list several people who should have or should not ever be allowed to conceive and it has nothing to do with their decision to BEAR a child but its based on their decision to bear the children they now have and are not responsible for. angel
