First of all, we don't believe in working. We believe that the government should tax the rich and send us the money so we can buy big televisions to spend our days watching Michael Moore film fests on PBS.

If that is true, then why are there so many democrats at the top of the "Richest people in the US" list?

Because todays many of politicians make it a career choice, and not a vocation.

I said democrats, I didn't say politicians.

I read what you said, Democrats or Republicans, Conservative or Labour, the answer is still the same.

That makes no sense.

It does if you are asking why so many democrats are on the rich list, the same applies to most political parties. Politicians are often in it for the money.

I wonder how true that statement is...many politicians start out on the city level...then move up to county then state... there is very little money involved at the beginning. Just like the gifted football player at the local high school who dreams of being in the NFL but has little chance of getting there…so do the many thousands of local mayors and councilmen who dream of being a Senator or President but will have to settle for less.

I think it is far more likely that most politicians want the prestige of reaching the top of the ladder but they are also well meaning conscientious people that want to make their country better. But the process and expense of election often burdens them with obligations to special interests or they could not afford to run.

I think money has little if any draw to these people.

Of course there are those with wealthy prestigious families such as the Bush’s and Kennedy’s that already have the money… they are strictly wanting the prestige and the money hold little interest for them as well.

Butch, initially many enter for the reasons you give, quite often not for money but for status and a desire to change the community. Once power at a higher level is obtained though, principals often fly out of the window. For an example, see the furore over MP`s expenses in the UK.
