Good morning!
I am currently going thru peri-menopause and to help the doctor has changed me to that seasonale birth control. Works very well for my symptoms but during the second cycle I started having lots of discharge. Which results in lots of smegma all day. I usually clean myself twice a day using baby oil with Vitamin E and Q-tips because it is getting in my clitoral hood and itching badly. But when I clean, it burns afterwards for abit, like rawness. I am also wearing panties and panty liners now because there is so much discharge. Is there any other way to keep clean without hurting myself? And yes it is so embarrassing to have to worry about it during playtime but I am more concerned about the accumulation aspect of this.

Any help would be appreciated. I only ask b/c the insurance refused to let me keep seeing my doctor (after 2 years of tests and treatments)and I am waiting on them finding me a "network approved" doctor. Hopefully this week. Thank you and have a great week.
Love,
Zechriel

Uh, you can just rinse it away with water, I wouldn't be dolloping all that other stuff down there, could have soap like substances in it, perfumes......I suspect the q-tip is what is causing you the greatest anguish.

Get one of those waterbottles from the convienience store and use it like a bidet. Irrigate, irrigate, irrigate

I went through menopause by drinking a balancing tea from my herbalist. You've just reminded me of why I tend to go for the more wholistic approach.

I'm not a doctor (I'm an aromatherapist), but this over-production of smegma tells me your body is seriously out of balance. If you can't stop taking the birth control pills, then please stop the baby oil. Baby oil is actually very drying to the skin. Substitute any oil that you are not allergic to...olive oil would work.

I am wondering if you might have a low level yeast infection?
The fact that it burns and itches... and you have a white discharge.
(Not all yeast infections have the classic "cottage cheese" appearance.)

You could try treating yourself with Monistat and also eat yogurt.

~Fast Reply~

If I had a woman come in to the clinic with these symptoms when I was working as a midwife doing well-woman care, I'd have thought "yeast"... and yeast infections aren't uncommon with both perimenopause and changes in birth control.

A plain yogurt rinse will help to soothe your tissue down there, then cut out any sources of sugar in your diet for about 10 days (including sugar, honey, maple syrup, and even white flour and fruit juice... basically, anything that will elevate your blood sugar quickly) and sources of yeast (including bread, cereals, wine, beer, fermented foods, etc.) ... and start eating 3-4 6oz servings of yogurt a day OR taking a probiotic supplement that is coated so that it gets through the stomach (most commercial probiotic supplements are useless because the acidity of the stomach is sufficient to kill off the bacteria). You can also add treatment for a vaginal yeast infection, but doing the above will help prevent a recurrence. (On a side note, I'd say that this is a hint that your body is really out of balance with the peri-menopause -and- the new birth control... since you can't stop menopause, you might want to consider another method of birth control).

I agree that it sounds like a yeast or bacterial infection.  Plain old smegma shouldn't burn and itch.  But infections happen all the time from changes in your body chemistry for whatever reasons.  Could be the peri-menopause, could be the new birth control, could be no reason at all, just a coincidence that it happened now.

Good evening all!
I would like to say thank you so much. Indeed, I am still wrangling with my insurance and the doctor they have sent me to to set an appt. Seems like I will be either waiting until Nov to see him or having the insurance find me another doctor (the fourth one so far). Love that military insurance.  So I decided to give myself a Monistat 7 treatment last night. And low and behold, although it stung terribly, today there is less itching and not much discharge. I shall finish it and if it comes back within the next few weeks-make an appt with my family doctor just for this, not my ongoing hormone treatment. Crossing my fingers but just wanted to say thank you !! So many women know it is yeast when it clumps like that but not when it is still like regular discharge, really opened my eyes. Have a great weekend!!
Love,
Zechriel

That "burn & itch" is a dead give-away   Glad you're feeling better!

You could also try to look for a Planned Parenthood in your area for yeast related problems.  They'll take a look at your hoo-hah for very little to no charge, depending on what you can afford.
