I know that Loki but hell, wasn't the exchange of views and discussions fun while they lasted?

Yep.

I may not share your views but I admire your conviction and I also admire the fact that not once did you resort to personal attacks or flaming, and it's been enjoyable discussing this topic with you. Just wanted to point that out and say thanks.

I didn't because you didn't. I have a strict rule (okay, it's more of a loose guideline really) that I don't attack until I *get* attacked.

I imagine I sometimes come off sarcastic and occasionally can appear condescending because of that sarcasm. But that's just because I'm an ass. It's who I am and I'm fine with it. Despite my sarcasm, I do typically try and keep things 'above the belt' until someone gives me reason not to. And of course, when someone else takes it to 'immature land' first, I have no trouble meeting them on equal footing. It really just depends on how bored I am and how long I'm willing to do the school-yard dance with them.

...fair enough. So what about the killers of Todd Willingham?  Do they get a free pass because it was done officially? Your position would be logically consistent if you also argued for justice for Todd Willingham. Thus far i've missed that bit.......

Does a paramedic who is doing his job to the best of his ability get charged with a patient's death? Does a cop who arrived too late to stop a break-in murder get charged with that crime? No.

So in this case, what you have is people -- a judge, a jury of 12, a prosector, investigators, etc -- who performed their job to the best of their ability. No one person killed Todd Willingham. And as far as I can tell, it's only been alleged that he was truly innocent anyway. I've seen no court outcome that exonerates him post-execution.

So, no. There is no free pass because everyone did their job. If the evidence was bad, if the expert witnesses were wrong...that doesn't make them evil, conspiring murderers. That makes them wrong. People die as a result of someone being "wrong" a lot. It doesn't mean the person who's wrong is guilty of their murder.

As I said, the system is flawed. It should be improved. But we should not stop executing killers, we should work harder to ensure the innocent are not falsely convicted.

Yeah, he's a pleasure to argue with. Even when we all got heated, it stayed excruciatingly civil.  I misjudged him when he first started posting a couple of months ago; I've really gained a lot of respect for him the more I've gotten to know him. I don't always agree with him, but I do always respect him as a class act. If only more posters were like him.

Now cut that put, both of you. You're going to ruin my asshole reputation. ;)
