I wish you all the best Sunny! I will definitely miss seeing your posts. I am so excited for you though! And I still have a postcard with your name on it that never made it out to you because of the move. Let me know where to send it and I will make sure you get it. I will send you my email on the other side.

[sm=river.gif]  Dear gods above and below!!!! I take a day off the boards for a doctor's appointment and come back to discover you're leaving us?????? I don't know whether to be thrilled to pieces at such an exciting opportunity for you or crying my head off that you're leaving us. Can I do both at the same time? Be happier than pure joy at your opportunity and sad for your leaving?

{{{HUGS}}} Best wishes and may you have the time of your life, sweetie. This is going to be one helluva ride for you. (Do you have to maintain their strict dress code and cover up? I have soooooooo many questions, I have always wanted to visit there!)

I sent ya a friend request, Sunnylicious!

sunshinemiss -> RE: Moving to Saudi Arabia (8/28/2009 8:27:13 AM)

Thanks Lady Hib!

Rain, let's see.  Yes, I will be wearing the abaya (that's what the Saudi's call it).  It's always black.  What's that about?  It ATTRACTS the sun in the desert.  sigh.  I'll be teaching in Uni and with women pretty much all the time.  No, I can't move about alone.  Feel free to ask any questions - I'll do my best to answer, and who knows?  You might ask something I hadn't thought of that would be really good for me to find out!  And by the way, I call that happy sad thing that you're talking about... Goddammit / Hallelujah.

Thanks for the well wishes!!!  I'm meeting up next weekend with one of my friends that I met in Korea.  She just got back and said "What an adventure!  Good for you."  *As opposed to one of my family members who dropped the F-bomb a number of times while she told me how crazy I am. [8|]  Where did she learn to talk like that?  I asked her "Do you kiss your aunt (that's me) with that mouth?"  "YES I DO."  she tells me.  Hummm.  deeeee. dummmm.  Where did she learn to yell like that? [8|]

Anyhoo... thank you for the outpouring here... and potty... thanks for the thread.  Really makes me smile.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Moving to Saudi Arabia (8/28/2009 2:05:01 PM)

Yes, I"m going to come back and say  "I want to drive a car, drink a beer, and kiss a man."  yup.  I just know it.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Moving to Saudi Arabia (8/28/2009 2:15:55 PM)

So I'm really excited and stuff to, but there's a part of me that's scared out of my ever loving mind.  The "what if"s are bouncing around and making me think all kinds of stuff even though I KNOW how to do this - not my first time living overseas after all.  I"m just scared about the visa process, most of which I have zero control over, the moving there, the flight, living day after day in the midst of so many differences, and missing oatmeal (oatmeal being a catch all for what I miss when I'm gone).

I have done research on the recruiting company - good reports - and the school - good reports.  But the guy who is the middle guy between the school and the recruiting company... not great.  He's evidentally a procrastinator... Not good when I have 3 weeks to get prepared to go.  I am doing all this with an "Offer of Employment" letter but I don't have the actually contract with all the info on it (including the info required to get a visa).  I just have a certain amount of faith that it will come, and meanwhile my tummy is in knots and I'm nervous.

So many things that need time that I don't have (do they even HAVE abayas in my size?  I mean I'm short and shapely... really.).  And the doctor's report that says I've no communicable diseases - the first appt I could get was for a few days after they want me to be there.... Can I have an earlier appt?  I ask.  We'll call you, they say.  I'm going to stop by during drop in hours next week.  Yeah.  That's it.

And ... and oh, my computer needs an overhaul, and I probably need new shoes, and I have new glasses (YAY! adult ((bifocal)) glasses BOO!), and and and... you see?  I'm a weeeeeeeee bit frenetic.  It'll pass, but I tend to be so happy happy when that's only half the story, and so I wanted to share the other half - I mean life isn't ALL rah rah rah (Unless we are talking of the Egyptian Sun God)... I guess it'll not be rah rah... it'll be allah allah  (there's a joke in there with R and L and having taught Asians.. I just know it.)  Wow - I can multi culturally recognize some kind of humor....

*falls over.  I need a big fat dirty martini.  That's it.  Haven't had a drink in.... 8 months?  Had one for xmas.  Yeah.  I'm gonna make me a drink.  That'll help.  It certainly won't hurt, right?  No, I"m not an alcoholic... just not much of a drinker.  I think this calls for a drink.  Celebratory, calming, whatever.  How do they live without anything over there?  What are they all on?  Xanax?  cheese and rice!

Yeah, welcome to my stream of consciousness.  HELPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!

Gwynvyd -> RE: Moving to Saudi Arabia (8/28/2009 3:57:10 PM)

Oh honey we are so gonna miss you! It is sure to be a grand adventure!

Keep in touch sweetheart.

*hugs*

Gwynvyd -> RE: Moving to Saudi Arabia (8/28/2009 4:06:23 PM)

I am so excited for you. I would not be able to deal with no women driving. That would kill me. I love to drive!

If you need any help or advice Soft was born in Saudi Arabia. ~ She even hit the king with her tricycle once. Only being a cute blonde little girl saved her. So I would not reconmend plowing down the king as a good way to make friends.

I am so proud of you. What a leap of faith! But I know you can do it!

Gwyn

sunshinemiss -> RE: Moving to Saudi Arabia (8/28/2009 5:19:19 PM)

Makes note... don't hit King with tricycle until AFTER hair is dyed blonde.

Thank you Miss Gwyn!

Hello my darlings,

Well, first let me say that you all saved my sanity while I was living in South Korea.  Not only did you offer diversion, laughter, and interesting conversations, but many of you have become good friends, folks to visit, people to look forward to at CM "family" reunions.

I have been offered an amazing opportunity to teach in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  I have chosen to accept it.  *eep!*   There are a number of reasons, one of which is the ability to teach communication to a people so different.  Truly, teaching is like being an ambassador to what real life Westerners are like.

Here is the rub...... sigh.

There is no ability to interact from a website like this one.  It is considered pornographic.  And that is deeply against the culture and the law.  SO...

I am asking that you all folks have some compassion.  *smiles*  I would like to maintain contact and what not with the folks here.  I could easily join other chat groups, discussion forums and the like as long as they do not in any way connect with pornography, pork, or pints (alcohol).  I am on Facebook as folks know, and I will be blogging about my experience.  I am asking for any referrals to good websites, discussion groups, etc. that would allow me to continue interacting with you all and get intellectual and emotional stimulation.  Plus I will be with women all the time, and I need a little testosterone fix on occasion - no I'm not talking web cam or anything like that.  You know... chatting with a fellow, playing games on yahoo, interesting interactions, book clubs, etc.

Also, I'm happy to accept postcards, snail mail, occasional letters, etc. and would return the favor.  I have references!

Can you help me?  I don't want to get lost in the desert.

Well wishes,
sunshine
*who is leaving in about 3 weeks.
