Sanity -> How About An Ethics Czar? (9/3/2009 6:32:28 AM)

Here's the perfect candidate - Charlie Rangle:

Rangel-ing: Charlie Pays 'Angels' In Ethics Probe

Harlem Congressman Gave Campaign Contributions To 3 Dems On Ethics Committee Charged With Investigating Him

CBS 2 HD has learned of more alleged back-door dealings and political power peddling by Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel.

The reigning member of Congress' top tax committee is apparently "wrangling" other politicos to get him out of his own financial and tax troubles.

Here's a look at Charlie's so-called "angels" involved in his ethics investigation.

Congressman Rangel has been arrogant in refusing to discuss how, as the man who writes this country's tax laws, he failed to report over $1 million in outside income and $3 million in business transactions as required by the House, lapses under investigation by the House Ethics Committee.

"I recognize that all of you have an obligation to ask questions knowing that there's none of you smart enough to frame it in such a way that I'm going to respond," Rangel said.

There may be a reason for Rangel's arrogance. CBS 2 HD has discovered that since ethics probes began last year the 79-year-old congressman has given campaign donations to 119 members of Congress, including three of the five Democrats on the House Ethics Committee who are charged with investigating him.

Oh my...a corrupt politician.....please let me get out my smelling salts as I might faint.

Sanity, let's not even start this one. If we traded one's sides crooked politicans with the other side's crooked politicians, the only ones left in both houses of congress, the white house and every state government legislature would be the janitors. The only news is who is getting hung out for the appearance that government cares about corruption today.

Sanity -> RE: How About An Ethics Czar? (9/3/2009 6:38:31 AM)

The reigning Democratic member of Congress' top tax committee is an infamous tax cheat... and he's bribing his fellow Democrats who are investigating him.

You're right Spinner. No smelling salts are needed, its just another day in paradise.

Corrupt politicians favor no party or wing-ness.

I love the idea of an ethics czar, Sanity.......but it is an illogical prepostion on its face, cause where you going to find an ethical person who lives in a political realm?

Ron

Sanity -> RE: How About An Ethics Czar? (9/3/2009 6:55:01 AM)

The Ethics Czar thing is a joke, Ron. It's a play on the way all the rest of Obama's cabinet seem to be composed entirely of tax cheats or other assorted criminals of one form or another.

TheHeretic -> RE: How About An Ethics Czar? (9/3/2009 6:59:26 AM)

Isn't it predictable, Sanity?  When the corrupt politician is a Democrat, it's business as usual, and completely bipartisan.  When it's a Republican, we can tar and feather the whole party.

Same shit, different day.

mnottertail -> RE: How About An Ethics Czar? (9/3/2009 7:05:42 AM)

Well, when it is the party in power for the bulk of the time, it is a matter of perspective.

The only thing that separates a True Hero from a War Criminal is who won.

I don't know that many Democrats run on a I am an ethical slut platform with impeccable ethical propositions.

Republicans often run on homophobic platforms and various 'values' platforms and end up getting caught giving airstarts in airport restrooms and living in sin and affairs and bribes and having babies out of wedlock and whatnot.

I wish to fuck they would shut up and lay low on that shit, they are going to get us ALL caught.

Ron

Doesn't even make the news. A local New York station covers it, and that's about it.

Let me get this straight.

According to your article he gave contributions to 119 members of Congress, including three on the committee.

Let's see 3 of 119 breaks down to 2.5% of his total contributions.

Yep, I see what you mean.

A definite conspiracy going on.

Fucking Democrats!

TheHeretic -> RE: How About An Ethics Czar? (9/3/2009 7:08:45 AM)

That's right, Ron.  Quickly change the subject to Repub misdeeds.  God forbid Charlie's corruption should get the sort of direct focus that vile toe-tapper did...

Howard Dean calling for an end to ‘culture of corruption' is kind of like David Duke asking us to embrace diversity.
Dean spoke at a Democrat Denial Dinner in Maine recently. He said, "The first thing we're going to do is we're going to have ethics come back to Washington again."

Sanity, it would be silly of me past the point of reason to even try to claim that democratic party politicians are corrupt, cheat on their taxes and do a whole host of unsavory things. The question is, are you actually willing to stand up and say that the republican party's politicians are any better? You are right. For both parties, this nonsense is business as usual.

Sanity -> RE: How About An Ethics Czar? (9/3/2009 7:18:21 AM)

Lets check your math.

If a politician bribes three out of five of his fellow party members who are charged with investigating him, what percentage received bribes?

Oh wait - you can't possibly figure out the answer to that question without first knowing which party said politician belongs to, can you. [;)]

Let's see 3 of 119 breaks down to .025% of his total contributions.

I love your spin, Spinner. Yep, a Republican might have done something bad once, so this is nothing.

BRILLIANT, I tell you.

Hey, you guys, c'mon.....we went from Nixon to Bill's blowjob and at that time it wasn't misdirection.

Sanity said this was a joke, but now it is going to turn vituperative, ok, I'll play, I don't give a fuck.

And what I was trying to point out is that corruption in politics is like saying red beans and rice.......it's what's on the plate.

I am not changing the subject whatsoever, but the argument as you are couching it is let us not focus on the problem and communally find ways to resolve it, but let us only focus on this to the exclusion of all else, and with this anecdotal incident (from many one, see rules post at the .025) we can pound the shit out of the miasmatic dealings of democrats, while patriotically ignoring the faults of the party of our interest.

The reason that the democrats are making the news is that they are generally a more long standing party in congress and almost always in the majority and the law of averages simply state this.

You raised a great hue and cry about Bill's blowjob, but were strangely quiet on the toe-tapping antics of your friends, so fuck that righteous indignation shit, Rich.

Me, I don't give a fuck about that shit, we need to take back america, and be heard and obeyed.

I don't see anyone in government majority or minority, left or right, liberal or conservative, radical or brain-dead, that is going to carry that out.

Ron

Sanity -> RE: How About An Ethics Czar? (9/3/2009 7:27:51 AM)

I said that the Ethics Czar thing was a joke, Ron.

The fact that the top Democrat on Tax legislation is a tax cheat and it doesn't make the news to speak of, and the fact that Democrats know it and do nothing is no joke.

It's one of those things that if you don't make light of it tends to make you very bitter...

And you know how I hate bitterness.

mnottertail -> RE: How About An Ethics Czar? (9/3/2009 7:36:48 AM)

Didn't make the news? So how did you get the article and the links? Don't think it will come up on The Imbicile Limbaugh's show? Not gonna be a dogbone on O'Reilly?
You got google auto suggest? Try typing Rangel tax (and see suggestions) do a quick article count and get back to me, I suggest you won't want to do that, Sanity.

More arguments would be convincing or at least more palatable if they didn't all include the rants that 'the liberal media' only covers it when it is republicans, and the 'nobody is aware' because of the hiding and ignoring when it comes to democrats, and the incessant we are getting fucked, cause we always make big news and the liberal media hides the faults of our oppostion crap.

CBS, what's that?

Ron

Really, your obsession with changing the subject (as was pointed out by TheHeretic) is showing.

Political ethics is an oxymoron...very similar to free-market capitalism.

Just pointing out a small inconsistancy in an otherwise bulletproof argument is all.
