I never wanted world trade. I am against the rape of the American worker to make this fictitious global economy.
If I lived in the home next to yours, I would feel the same way (protective) about England's economy. I believe that the base has to be strong or nothing will stand. We currently have no base in the country I live in because of corporate greed and political idiocy.

Firstly, I applaud your comment about thinking the same whatever country you came from. I just dont think its practical, what happens to American jobs if you become isolationist ? Think how many goods you manufacture which go overseas. Then think the same to the American farming industry, how many jobs would be lost if you only had the American market ? Where would you get all the raw material and America doesnt have ?

I think the whole WTO and NWO idea is something dreamt up by powerbrokers to make more money, so Im not wholly against the idea of reducing trade between countries, I just dont see how it can be done in the current climate.

I agree, but now we need to get those brickheads in Washington to address the issue correctly, which is studying the costs and why they are so high for someone and not for others. It would also take an extensive examination of the health insurance companies, which is absolutely needed to start unraveling this mess.

I go to the Doctor and pay cash, and I am charged 20-25% less than if I was filing insurance. Why is that?

Anyway, sorry to derail this topic of oursourcing, but the employee benefit expense is a large reason why many comapnies look abroad.

make incentives for people to open businesses here. One of the downsides at the moment is the heavy expense of employee benefits programs, but maybe that may be addressed soon too.

This is among the reasons I see health care reform as an economic essential.

That an exploitation Orion. Its easy to get cheap labour in countries where there really is little alternative. I wouldnt just blame employee benefits, but also company greed, lets not forget many benefits are paid instead of a better wage.

I agree with your first paragraph.

The second is economics. Without the need to process forms, your doctor has less overhead, and is willing to attract cash customers to reduce that overhead.

Live well--and healthy!

I've been self employed the majority of my life - including even child and teen years, as well as adult (though some would probably deny that I'm really an adult, LOL).

The few times I have sought out employment one of the things I've tried to do is eliminate the benefits and simply have the employer pay me a higher wage. Getting them to do that is a near impossibility and I only met with limited success on one occasion.

In reality it isn't an option.

When the elimination of "outsourcing" is discussed it is always equated with isolationism and/or protectionism, and this usually and most vocally by alleged "free market" proponents.

As for the government having the "legal bearing" to do this it/they/we certainly do. Changes in the tax code and changes to import duties, taxes and tariffs could make it economically unviable for US corporations to outsource.

It would be easy enough to end it just get out of all these "free trade" deals that were designed behin the scenes to be "outsourcing" deals in the first place.
Look at "NAFTA"! Obama should just grab that document with Clinton's signiture on it and burn it on live t.v.! "There, now we're out of "NAFTA!"
This is just pure, unadulterated, short term Greed!
What these cos have overlooked is that having "poor" customers who make half of what they made 15 years ago is not "good for business."
We're already seeing Walmart and many other cos sales figures falling over the last ten years.
Closing plants here and opening them in foreign countries is not "free trade." If they want to do that fine, then sell their stuff overseas not in the U.S.
Selling goods in the U.S. by anyone is not a "right."
We really need to start calling our reps and senators on this!
Irish, I buy "Wolverine" hiking/work boots at Sears, "Made in Michigan" for about $120 and they last for FIVE years!
