{My modernization of Howl by Allen Ginsburg.}
I saw the best men of my generation destroyed by
madness, horny lonely anonymous,
dragging themselves through the neon lists each night
looking for a naked fix;
angelhearted dreamers burning for the ancient heavenly connection
to the starry dynamo in the approximation of love,
who one-night-stands and swingers and Viagra-laced and turgid lay
down panting in the supernatural darkness of
interchangeable bedrooms lusting across the four-lane highways
fantasizing threesomes,
who bared their buttocks to women across the Internet and
saw Playboy illusions parading on
Dell monitors illuminated,
who passed through ranks of singles websites with radiant cool eyes
hallucinating Madonna and prepubescent heiresses
among the survivors of war,
who were expelled from marriage for crazy &
publishing obscene odes on the pages of their
homelife,
who cowered in tepid rooms in boxers, placing
their money in envelopes on smooth tables and listening
to the tourists through the wall
who scratched crabs in their pubic areas driving at sunrise
with a piece of lingerie for the bedpost,
who ate pussy in neighbors' homes or drank semen in
rest areas, death, or purgatoried their
groins night after night,
with dreams, with sex, with waking nightmares,
alcohol and breasts and endless cunt,
incomparable blind...
with the absolute heart of the poem of life butchered
out of their own bodies good to eat a thousand years.
