"We just accede to their anticipated demands"

As a free speech kind of guy, I find this really troubling.  My opinion is that if Yale doesn't have the stones to publish the account in full. they should not publish it at all.  Let another press do it properly.

I think you'll find images of Mohammed are offensive to all Muslims not just the one doing extreme things. Thus it's more akin to being sensitive to other peoples beliefs rather than negotiating or giving into terrorists demands.

My personal view is their beliefs be damned but Yale would probably like to avoid all the expected controversy it could cause. In any case people are telling me all the time to stop pointing out the flaws in other beliefs, why should it matter to me so much they ask?

My view is they don't like images of him because as soon as you create an image of something it becomes subject to scrutiny, far better to keep it all mystical and vague.

That's a shame, RML.  I try to eagerly look for the points of agreement I have with those on the other side of many issues.  Common ground is an important thing to find, and should be treasured, I think.

Aside from the courage/cowardice question, I have to wonder how one can publish a meaningful book on the cartoons without including them.

Fast Reply:

Yeah, we would not want those followers of the "religion of peace" to be upset and become violent.

I am SO sick and tired of this appeasement crap!

How much money do you think I could raise to make a 1/2 acre sized reproduction of the images. I have about an 1/2 acre field, with nothing in it. Point it straight up, and Print God is Dead, above it. Allah Akbar. Maybe make a big printout of the Obama Joker poster, and Cheney as a Vampire while we're at it. Oh and Jesus engaging in some nefarious act, like banging prostitutes.

That should unite the world against a common enemy.

And.. God sent forth his second son, to bring all the peoples of earth together....

I'm an angel in disguise. LOL.

If they were just being sensitive, then why didn't they cite that as the reason. According to the article. "Yale cited fears of violence".

I've always wondered about this question it's a very philosophical point i.e. if you can't record what someone looks like how do you know when the image you have looks too much like the prophet Mohammed? So in reality it isn't the image but the text indicating who it is, very strange. If you was to draw a picture of Mohammed and call him Brian that would be perfectly acceptable since nobody knows what Mohammed actually looks like.

Like I said earlier it's just a way to keep up the mystique.

All muslims are violent terrorists?  What are you syggesting?  This has everything to do with religion - nothing to do with terrorism.

Sheesh! When is the state of Connecticut going to pull their accreditation?
Let them be a "mail order" school.
"If the Clintons and George Bush can get a degree so can you!" "We garauntee it!"" Our curriculum is so easy even Patrick "Patches" Kennedy could pass it!"
"Study in your spare time!"
I mean really, if you were in charge of hiring at a company would you hire someone who went to "YALE?"

I agree that it stinks, but in the current climate, and considering the extremes to which the nutters will go, I'd like to ask those so self-righteously indignant whether they would publish these images in their names if they were in a position to do so.

Isn't that kind of irrelevant seeing those that made the book wanted to do exactly as you stated. The publisher, is preventing them from doing it by modifying what was to be published. So, apparently there are those that would. If the question is if I were the publisher would I stop someone from publishing controversial works. Of course, I'd let them print it.

If there is a fund to donate to to get it printed elsewhere, I'll throw in a little, and they can print my name on it to if they want. Kneeling to terrorism is the surest path to ensuring its continued use.

Allah Akbar.

In the end I guess I put little value on peace itself, being more concerned with the conditions required for it, which in this case, is "Shut Up", or someone might kill you. Only a coward silences upon request.

Yessum, masta, I won't be drawing no more cartoons you don't be liken...
Me not want the whip... I be mighty sorry to offend you master. Lookey, I removed them, can I be a free man now?

LOL. Yeah, fuck Yale University Press, they are cowards. Really, cowards, that supposedly are at the forefront of enlightened thought. More like the dawn of the Dark Ages...
