Acer49 -> definition of a switch (9/9/2009 9:55:49 AM)

Which of the two best describe a switch

One who is submissive to one, but who is able and desires to dominate another
or
One who switches when the mind tells him/her to do so

RavenMuse -> RE: definition of a switch (9/9/2009 11:55:48 AM)

Wouldn't that depend on the switch? If someone tells Me they are switch it is simply getting Me roughly into the right ball park of understanding..... like any other label you need more questions/communication to narrow it down from the broader. generic descriptives.

Sunnyfey -> RE: definition of a switch (9/9/2009 2:14:31 PM)

Very much depends on the Switch.

I only switch with those I am ok switching with. Like...now that I am with someone who dose not switch at all, well I wont be switching anytime soon will I?

As one who identifies as a  switch...it is usually highly dependent upon the person I am with.

Further questioning would reveal possibly which side of the whip one was most comfortable in. However is this not an attempt to label the switch either Dom or sub?

Will you? I did not think you had a choice in the matter

So this is a conscious decision that you can control at will? I could see myself being able to do everything a sub does, but to be able to feel as a sub does, I do not think that is something I have any control over or an ability to change no matter how much I may desire to do so

Not in the least. The 'ballpark' label switch tells Me they do both (My first question would be to find out if they meant actual Dynamic or simply Topping/bottoming). My status is fixed so even if We are discussing somekind of involvement they already know that with Myself the Dynamic would only be in one direction... however to understand them I would have to understand how their responses ebb and flow... That is something individual to each person.... much like finding out the individual responses of a sub/slave or discussing with a peer what makes Them tick! The generalised label is merely a startpoint from which to discover the specifics of the individual.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: definition of a switch (9/9/2009 4:09:39 PM)

\My definition of a switch is someone who is both comfortable with and desires to do both sides of the coin.  I am there for a switch because I like bottoming to men and topping women.

Switches tend to vary a great deal; I agree you have to ask the switch. There are some who can have one side or the other remain dormant if they are hooked up with a non switching partner who doesn't like to share.

I've done that for awhile, after a few years the dominant side asserts itself.

DemonKia -> RE: definition of a switch (9/9/2009 6:58:46 PM)

FR, after read thru

Personally, I tend to identify as a dominant-leaning switch. Do I assume other people ID that way? Nope. If it seems pertinent, I enquire as to what they mean by 'switch' . . . . .

My experience is that most everyone has their own particular take on their various labels & that the labels offer up fairly vague directions as to what a given individual is about . . . . . .

I can't count the times I've considered changing my CM "label" from switch to dominant. But I always stop... it feels like I'd be keeping part of the truth of who I am from anyone reading my profile.

DavanKael -> RE: definition of a switch (10/3/2009 5:17:29 PM)

I tend to conceptualize myself as a submissive-leaning switch but I surely seem to have a tremendous number of people wishing to submit to me.

I doubt Bear meant that it was a conscious choice. I'm submissive as a label but I don't feel submissive to most. It's a chemistry type thing. And I imagine that how he is with a specific partner depends on the chemistry there. With some the submissiveness in him is brought out, with others the more dominant persona.

Elipsis -> RE: definition of a switch (11/13/2009 10:37:57 PM)

There aren't really definitions that I've seen but if I mix in some IT terminology we can create some...

Static Switch - someone who establishes a clear power dynamic with a person and with that person it does not change... but nonetheless is capable of taking either role depending on the partnership

Dynamic Switch - someone who can frequently change up the power dynamic within a given relationship, and could have both domination or topping as well as submission or bottoming with the same person

If I'll be permitted to use those, there is no "best" definition so much as the one that best defines you as an individual.

Easily turned off and onable.

I'm actually both of those... But mostly the first one.
I rather suspect that everyone is.
And I do mean everyone

Underumam -> RE: definition of a switch (11/29/2009 9:12:33 AM)

My first profile years ago was a switch. Due to my lack of experience at the time I was basing the description upon my sexuality more than anything else. I have a dominant side, yet I rarely expresses myself as such. Bedroom play is one thing, and life in the "real world" is another. A man who allows people to walk over him in business and other dealings with the public will never be taken seriously, yet I am extremely submissive to the females in my life at home. My vocations as a truck driver, minister, carpenter and other manly occupations, demanded that I be firmly rooted in and function as a dominant male.Yet this is not how I wish to express myself in the other facets of my life. It's perfectly natural for me to submit to female energy, as well as to function in daily life as a strong man. Ms. Lockit describes me as a submissive alpha male. I prefer Her definition. lol.
